50 years ago, the typical shooting/hunting magazine would run 5-6 articles a year encouraging safety, respect for private property, adherence to hunting regulations, all centered on the idea that shooters and hunters had to be always on their best behavior, because it only takes one asshole (as in the present instance) to convince non- hunters that all hunters are assholes.
I don't see much of that any more...
Oh, yeah, in the 1950's, Alaska had a bounty on bald eagles. Yep, Parah Sailin's state thought eagles were a nuisance species, back when, before DDT damn near wiped them out.

Any conservation or hunting mag here in Canada still does, first and foremost, concentrate on safety and respect towards property/animals.and adherence to regulations and the wildlife act...but also on our magazine stands are American hunting mags available, and to read one of them compared to ours is like night and day.
