Now, Oberg had sent a letter ordering me to "refrain from publishing any information about the use of face recognition at the Statue of Liberty."
(Getting a lot of use out of that image lately.)

I wouldn't worry too much about face recognition technology that claims to pinpoint your ethnicity. The facial recognition software at an online site that's now defunct examined a picture of me and decided I'm Chinese with possible Japanese/Korean admixture!

Not so fast, fnord, the math works! Think about it: WWII, Japan, Korea, Comfort Women...
Hey, sucky-sucky? Only ten dollar!

I have a layman's understanding of software development, but it's my understanding that "facial recognition software" is a pipe dream, on the level with "lie-detector test," "background check*" and "Strategic Defense Initiative**." These are magical phrases with no bearing on the real world, used mostly by politicians to keep the masses calm and by hucksters trying to get themselves a fat government contract.
*I do have some knowledge of this. You would be appalled at what a standard background "check" can a) saddle an innocent person with and/or b) overlook a genuine criminal history.
Did anybody else watch The Americans on FX? It's fictional espionage set in the 80s. I was fascinated in spite of myself...

Almost all the major Casino's in Las Vegas use facial recognition but they scan against a comparatively small database of people they're trying to keep out.
The reason facial recognition has failed the first time around is twofold. The images were poor and the databases were limited. This will change as more high-res cameras are used for public surveillance however, the bigger issue is whether they will be limited to the DMV and military databases for faces or if they are granted access to social media or even private organizations that use ID badges.

It's a TV channel, which you almost certainly get in your basic cable package, assuming you have cable. And a TV.

We have TV's, no cable. We're kind of old fashioned and live off of the internet and Xbox.

I don't know if the series is available on Hulu, but I'm sure you could stream it off of somewhere.
