The first half of the movie (the first night, when it originally aired) was pretty OK, but then it went off the rails. The sense of mounting panic and universal doom in the first couple hours was quite good and I enjoyed the cameos by Ed Harris and Kathy Bates.

Can't we just have a bad ass nuclear war. Seems to me that method would at least provide some sweet eye candy at the end. Sort of like the grand finale at a firework show. "Death by Cooties" is just fucking lame.

That's a morally reprehensible stance, and I'm ashamed to be associated with you! It would be much better to build a wall around the whole area and let them fight it out until only one man is left, then shoot him from a distance.
