Wil Wheaton, aka Star Trek TNG's Wesley Crusher, got to do a Jello Pudding Pops commercial as a kid.  He said he loved it since, basically, it was eat pudding pops and play with Bill Cosby all day.

Are we doing pre-obituaries now?

Not sure this qualifies yet for a deathwatch.

I should have posted a disclaimer. Cosby has lived nearby at least 40 years. One of his former producers lives immediately next door. I spent a summer as a kid in the next town over lusting after Dick Gregory's daughters, again, next door. And I know next to nothing first hand about either of them, except this. Growing up without a single vinyl record in the house and limited teevee access, Cosby and Gregory were the only comedians I knew from a load of goats.

Both have feet of clay. Who doesn't?

If you weren't alive when I Spy was on the teevee, you may not be aware of what a groundbreaker the man was in his heyday.  Not just a black man, but a really DARK black man, and he was too clever and too funny to ignore.  All the adults I knew at the time (all of 'em white Southerners, natch) thought he was the cat's pajamas.
By the 70s, I thought, at least, that much of his humor had taken on a mean undertone.  I'm thinking mainly of the times he was on The Tonight Show.
I never had much stomach for his 80s sitcom.
Nowadays he's basically just a grouchy old man.  Same thing happened to Carlin.

I loved that show but even Mad Magazine did a parody on he and Bob Culp mumbled way too much.  If ever a series needed closed captioning...
