I mean, seriously. If I were Trump's lawyer... okay, first, I'd be a fucking desperate clown to EVER take him on as a client because he has to be the WORST client to have... but secondly, I would NEVER want him on a witness stand because he supremely likely to say something that will just make things worse for me.

Look, I hate Trump but I love being fair. Between Trump and Biden we have to account for the massive caveat curveball that is the Covid-19 pandemic.

That said, even if we take those two out of the equation, the pattern still holds.

Donald's record with jobs (and pretty much everything else) was already in a downward spiral before COVID was even a thing. And, yes, Donald inadvertently killed over one million Americans by downplaying COVID as a personal insult; but between Gen X continuing to be slackers, living with their parents and not working, and Gen Z realizing that Capitalism is a nationwide Ponzi scheme where employers pay you 50% of what you should be getting paid they are, by and large, not showing up in the work force statistics as they are part of the first national gig and barter economy.

Hey, I (and my son) live with my parents because my full-time job can't afford the absurd rents around here. It's virtually impossible to find a decent 2BR anything around here in an area I'd feel safe enough to have my son living in.

As scary as the prospect of Donald getting reelected is, it pales in comparison to how scary Jack Smith is.

I added the numbers as I'm assuming that these are some new indictments in the pipeline.

Smith’s team in an 82-page filing over the weekend warned an appellate court against granting former President Donald Trump’s claim that he is immune from prosecution because his post-election crusade was an official part of his presidential duties.

“That approach would grant immunity from criminal prosecution to (1) a President who accepts a bribe in exchange for directing a lucrative government contract to the payer; (2) a President who instructs the FBI Director to plant incriminating evidence on a political enemy; (3) a President who orders the National Guard to murder his most prominent critics; or (4) a President who sells nuclear secrets to a foreign adversary

Not only did House Republicans declare the border compromise bill DOA on Trump's orders (nb: Mike Johnson insists he's 'calling the shots' in the House - isn't he adorable?!), but they couldn't even manage to win a (laughable) impeachment vote of Mayorkas.

This is a party that couldn't govern, even if it wanted to (narrator voice: "It doesn't").

And the capitulation of the Republican Party is now complete:

"RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has offered to leave her position following the South Carolina primary later this month to allow former President Donald Trump to install his own leaders of the party, two party advisers tell CNN. She has also discussed those plans with Trump, according to a person a familiar."

Perhaps “failing” (as it should) because the country is sinking with astronomical levels of debt - while an all but co-opted US Congress is fine sending billions to countries who spend it slaughtering thousands.  Fuck Israhell and fuck the Ukes.

They're not going to give this up because "dear leader" wants a Democrat impeached. Forget that he will never be found guilty in the Senate.

So, not only are fact-checkers now calling Trump's lies "deranged", but Trump himself seems to be displaying a shocking (even for him) lack of self-awareness.

Trump was trying to take a shot at Nikki Haley because her husband wasn't appearing at campaign events, despite the fact that he's currently deployed in AFRICA WITH THE NATIONAL GUARD. Despite, also, that his own spouse has not been seen on the campaign trail.

This man does NOT live in reality.

Trump says he would encourage Russia to ‘do whatever the hell they want’ to any NATO country that doesn’t pay enough

By Kate Sullivan, CNN

Updated: 10:05 PM EST, Sat February 10, 2024

Source: CNN

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday said he would encourage Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to any NATO member country that doesn’t meet spending guidelines on defense in a stunning admission he would not abide by the collective-defense clause at the heart of the alliance if reelected.

“NATO was busted until I came along,” Trump said at a rally in Conway, South Carolina. “I said, ‘Everybody’s gonna pay.’ They said, ‘Well, if we don’t pay, are you still going to protect us?’ I said, ‘Absolutely not.’ They couldn’t believe the answer.”

Trump said “one of the presidents of a big country” at one point asked him whether the US would still defend the country if they were invaded by Russia even if they “don’t pay.”

“No, I would not protect you,” Trump recalled telling that president. “In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want. You got to pay. You got to pay your bills.”

The White House later Saturday called Trump’s remarks “appalling and unhinged” and touted President Joe Biden’s efforts to bolster the alliance.

“President Biden has restored our alliances and made us stronger in the world because he knows every commander in chief’s first responsibility is to keep the American people safe and hold true to the values that unite us. … Encouraging invasions of our closest allies by murderous regimes is appalling and unhinged – and it endangers American national security, global stability, and our economy at home,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a statement.

At the core of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is the promise of collective defense — that an attack on one member nation is an attack on all the nations in the alliance. Trump has long complained about the amount other countries in NATO spend on defense compared with the United States and has repeatedly threatened to withdraw the US from NATO. But his comments Saturday are his most direct indication he does not intend to defend NATO allies from Russian attack if he is reelected.

Trump has for years inaccurately described how NATO funding works. NATO has a target that each member country spends a minimum of 2% of gross domestic product on defense, and most countries are not meeting that target. But the figure is a guideline and not a binding contract, nor does it create “bills”; member countries haven’t been failing to pay their share of NATO’s common budget to run the organization.

As president, Trump privately threatened multiple times to withdraw the United States from NATO, according to The New York Times. Trump has described NATO as “obsolete” and has aligned himself with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who wants to weaken the alliance. Trump has long praised Putin and went as far as to side with the Russian leader over the US intelligence community over Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.

This story has been updated with additional developments.

GOP Sen. Marco Rubio defended former President Donald Trump’s controversial comment that he would encourage Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to a NATO member country that didn’t meet defense spending guidelines.

“That’s not what happened, and that’s not how I view that statement,” the Florida Republican argued Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union when asked whether he was comfortable with Trump’s suggestion that he wouldn’t defend NATO countries.

Perhaps I am being too pessimistic, but it seems to me that the four "justices" who voted to hear the case will slow roll  the publication of an ultimate decision tinkering with concurring opinions, dissents, etc.) so that it is not issued until the end of June.  This woul make trial prior to election day all but impossible, even if the outcome is to reject Trump's appeal.
