Actually, I think that top post is perfect. To me, it showcases "conservative thinking" like few things I've recently seen.

It showcases politico speak like few things ever, Trump went on for years about this all the while knowing that legally it was the parents citizenship that gave natural citizenship to children regardless of where they were born. The US allows citizenship for being here when born but we are the only major nation that does so. Obama's mother was a US Citizen so Obama was born a US citizen.

The whole "Birther" story was never anything more than a flimsy, easily disproved canard to delegitimize Obama in the eyes of the not very judicious. Messaging on the right has become almost entirely propaganda, and as was pointed out in that brilliant article about propaganda which square posted recently -- it doesn't have to be true to be effective. You just need to keep repeating it.
Success depended on an army of useful idiots who kept the propaganda alive by constantly reposting, and starting arguments about it. Remember, at best, Obama came out of any discussion of Birtherism not having lost ground; he couldn't win. The mere fact that the subject was endlessly discussed kept the conversation focused on negatives associated with the president.
People who are still focused on this nonsense now (long after it has lost any useful purpose) are simply those whose actions are completely reflexive rather than conscious; it's doubtful they ever had any real clue what was going on, or the role they had been manipulated into playing.
