He's going to be showing up at my work soon.  I'll be showing up because I want to know what he could possibly have to say, and because someone's going to ask him about the sourcing of his pictures and if he is making money off of other people's inventions.  It'll be interesting to hear the answer.

Our kitty forum is art - making money from it would only cheapen our vision.

I think it's amusing that they rightly give credit to 4chan (without quite entirely explaining what that IS). But still, who are you kidding? If we could make money off of anything that HS did, don't you think we'd at least TRY? Monetizing a site usually means there's more traffic, and lurkers don't always count.

So I used to have this cat, a huge part Maine Coon named Ben that I picked up at the same time as another cat named Cleo (I didn't name them), a big fat tabby that was living in a KFC dumpster.  They got along fine.  Then my parents moved to Colorado and couldn't keep their cat, so I took him in.  Apparently Ben couldn't take being in a house with another male cat and started spraying the walls like crazy.  I mean, everything from the floor to three feet high was covered with his butt-batter.  He'd do that little jig all day long.  Finally I knew it was one cat or the other, and so I kept my parents' old cat and took Ben to the Humane society, told them what the deal was, and that yes, I'd tried everything known to man,  and they took him and my money, and they made me pay an extra ransom on his life.  The deal works like this:  they'll try to get someone to adopt him, but if nobody does, they'll put him down.  For $60, though, they'll call you and give you a chance to save your cat's life if they decide that they need to put him down.  I felt like shit, I paid the money, and I implored them to warn the next owner that he should probably be an only cat.

Fast forward a year and a half and my parents' old cat finally bucks the kicket, so I'm casually looking through cat adoption listings, and there he is:
http://www.petharbor.com/get_image.asp?RES=Detail&ID=A599620&LOCATION=SNJS

I bet those fuckers did the same thing that lady that gave me my cats did and didn't tell his owner why he was returned.  So fuck!  I can't take him back, my whole house smells like McKenzie.  I hope he doesn't get put to sleep.

I just thought I'd brighten your day with my tale.

My sister has three cats.  Louise, Falafel and Drew.  She called me yesterday morning at 7am, crying, to tell me that Louise had died.  She was 15 years old.  She heard her mewing strangely early in the morning and found her laying on the bathmat in front of the shower.

Well past the freshness dating. I have two 13 year old litter mates that are the vision of health. But I still keep the shovel where I can find it.

I would send that to my sis to cheer her up but it just so happens that Louise was a calico.  I don't think she would find the humour in it.

*EDIT* And I said the CAT was ON the bathmat, not vice versa.

My parents have one remaining cat, and she is 20 goddamned years old.  She still gets around pretty well, but she's gone from an active sleeps-only-18-hours-a-day cat to a sleeps-22-hours-a-day layabout.

Are you sure she's alive?  She might just be dried-out.

Every now and then she drags her boney carcass into the kitchen because she's run out of vomit to deposit on the carpet.

Or smell, or sound, or--perhaps, more importantly--taste. "My cat developed a hankering for human flesh ever since we dropped with her one night."

Tis a cruel enough thing to do to an unsuspecting and/or unprepared human. Dosing kitties is just mean-spirited. What did the experiment ultimately determine, I wonder.

I suppose, then, that it's just the striking crudeness of experiment. It's not like I'm against using animals, but I've always felt there should be more of a purpose aforethought and more use for the results. Analysis of such an effect really fails to yield any idea of what's happening at all.

There used to be a lot of experiments like that.  What exactly did they think poisoning people by injecting them with plutonium would prove?

Uhhhh...plutonium kills folks dead?  I'm actually all for experiments like that.  We need more, in fact.  Use lifers in prison as subjects, or gang members in prison.  They've proven that they can't be trusted on work farms or conservation projects or firefighting.  Let's get some use out of 'em!  Have the drug companies pay for their "food" and upkeep during the experimental period.
