I'm depressed. The cat with whom I've been living for the past nine months is moving to Berkeley. Even though she belongs to my flatmate - who got a great deal on a cottage on the wrong side of the Bay - she's lying on my bed at my feet right now while her person is asleep in another room.
She's a long haired, orange tabby with green eyes and a bushy tail; she's cranky and claws for no intelligible reason, hates to be picked up, and chews on my spider plants. She bites when she's annoyed, which is often, but follows me around relentlessly and gazes at me adoringly from where ever she's perched. When I come home, she's waiting for me at the top of the stairs. I've also given her a nasty catnip habit.
God, I'm going to miss her.

The one good thing is that when you wake up in the middle of the night you won't waste an hour thinking that you want to turn over, but you can't because she's sleeping between your legs on top of the covers, and if you do it'll wake her up.

I had a flatmate (Lance, a bartender at the Stud. NOT the Lance mentioned in NYJews' post) on Castro that had this amazing cat named Norman Bates...he was a skinny grey-brown tabby that had to be in my room whenever I was around. I always wondered what happened to him after Lance moved. If you ever go to the Stud, ask him about Norman Bates....

I have five cats who sleep with me, which usually results in me waking up in feline four-point restraint, with the "extra" cat stretched across my pelvis or curled up around my head. I feel no guilt in moving them since they sleep for 16 hours a day and as soon as they sense that I'm asleep, they'll just pin me down and try to sweat me out again. These cats don't tolerate intruders well. The few times I've had sex around them, they actually take turns walking over us and touching their cold, wet noses against my unlucky paramour's bunghole. That's when they're not trying to lie on me, no matter what I'm doing or who else is on top, or stealthily positioning themselves to surprise us with a full-on, face-to-faces blank stare. If I put them out of the bedroom, they claw splinters of paint and wood out of the floor and door and yowl mercilessly to get back in.
On the bright side, they growl at strangers and children.
