All credit goes to the Toe.
Instead, here's more about Bakersfield. Poor Bakersfield. California's own little bit of Texas Baja Oklahoma.
They like the climate?????

I was once offered a job reporting for the paper in Bakersfield.
I didn't accept it.

Bakersfield is said to be the armpit of California; I think California’s anal hair is more like it.

Funny fat man Victor Buono once called Rome, "Bakersfield with tomato sauce."

My wife interviewed with the Delano (Spanish for "from the anus") School District at a job fair at SDSU. They offered her a job on the spot. We decided to mull the decision over the weekend, then visited the following Monday. The supe's face visibly fell when she saw we'd come to see her depressing school district. She offered us the following "inducement:" "Well, you could work here, but you wouldn't have to live here. You could live in Bakersfield." Jesus. A place that makes Bakersfield look attractive? I was in between jobs and uninsured, and we still couldn't say "fuck, no!" fast enough.

It's always fun when you first start learning Spanish to ask people "Cuantos anos tienes?" and then tell them how impressive that is.
