My mom is just barely younger than John McCain.

She's way too fucking old to be President.

That's why I've decided not to endorse her.

Let's take a hypothetical situation:  we have a 72-year-old that just got hired as a greeter at Wal-Mart, the easiest job in the world.  Who would take the odds that he'll be able to show up consistently for the next 4 years?

I have to tell you, I wouldn't take those odds.

We put up with the decline of Reagan in his second term, but we were already sorta locked into that. Lloyd Bentsen has spoken to me from the dead, and says that McCain is no Reagan. Unless there's some dramatic upset at or by the Democratic Convention in August, I figure the next President--who will assume the responsibility for at least two wars, crushing debt, a ruined economy, and gas prices (if they're not artificially lowered by the current Administration on their way out, for lack of anything better to be remembered by) that should be around $5 per gallon by then--will be Barry Obama. If he has the decency not to get assassinated, then we'll have one term of him before Hillary tries it again on the "I Told You So Campaign 2012." I figure she'll have those 2-4 years to back the hell up and rehab her personal image to come into line with something more Thatcherite. The majority of ANY new President's job is going to be in undoing all the damage of the past 8 years.

A president has to be one of three things: Meaningful, entertaining or forgotten.

Bush II - Meaningful (and not in a good way)
Clinton - Entertaining
Bush I - Meaningful (and not in a good way)
Reagan - Meaningful (in a semi-good way) and then entertaining
Carter - Forgotton
Ford - Forgotton
Nixon - Meaningful (In a very bad way)

So don't you see that it is much better to be entertaining than meaningful? Every time some candidate tries meaningful, they mess it up badly for everyone.
