I'm sure this will spur a volley of invective, so here ya go:
The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed former White House adviser Karl Rove as part of its inquiry into whether the Bush administration politically meddled at the Justice Department.
Accusations of politics governing decisions at the agency led to the resignation of former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
The subpoena issued Thursday orders Rove to testify before the House panel on July 10. He is expected to face questions about the White House's role in firing nine U.S. attorneys in 2006 and the prosecution of former Gov. Don Siegelman of Alabama, a Democrat.
House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers had negotiated with Rove's attorneys for more than a year over whether the former top political adviser to President Bush would testify voluntarily. (NYT)
One can probably expect Rove to be at least twice as dodgy as Gonzales, probably bordering on the cynical and condescending. If this is the result of a year's worth of haggling to get him to testify on his own, then I expect him to be both adversarial and unforthcoming; i.e., his usual, horrible self.

They should leave that guy alone. What's worse for him, going to jail for not testifying because of his "principals", or shuffling off into a well-deserved obscurity after his tactics cause the utter destruction of his party? In ten years he'll be managing the third last telemarketing phone center in existence, crying over the fact that the US National Health Service won't cover Viagra.

Shuffle off into obscurity? What rock are you living under. Rove is getting his just rewards nearly nightly as a highly paid pundit on Fox. He is quite active in consulting for the GOp on the current campaign.
I'd say Rove has already won this one if he managed to delay it for a year plus. A few more months and an election he would have been off the target radar as no one will even care about Bush anymore.

More of a case of "the fire is burning down and the wolves are starting to creep closer" for some from the current administration. They've made the double-mistake of creating fierce (and soon to be powerful enemies) whilst commiting well-documented crimes by the dozens.
