Once or twice a year I wake in the middle of the night filled with the panic of the death row prisoner. There's a small silver ring under my pillow, put there some years ago for exactly these occasions. I pull it, and the force travels down a leader of gut to the trigger of old Betsy, my (still unloaded) shotgun. It only takes one sharp suggestive steel click to banish the night terrors and send me back to sleep.

I think they're on the right track, but they're not going far enough. How about simulated Hell? They could be made to simulate being tortured and raped by demons and forced to drink "boiling lead". Then they could be ushered into a room and have their eyelids propped open Clockwork Orange-style and forced to watch the entire Princess Biscuit collection.
