That does look like fun, we have a lot of GPS treasure hunts in this area for both cars over a large area and for ATVs up in the mountains. You're given a list of coordinates and clues for each coordinate to find the "hidden treasure".. You drive like hell to get there and solve the clue, when you find it, you get a number to write down to prove you were at that location. Whoever gets all the verification numbers first wins. Sometimes they're set up so you can get them done in a day, sometimes it takes weeks. I was planning to do a couple of these this Spring and Summer, but my mom's health issues seem a little more important now.

Dirck.
I'm done with SUVs. I look like a fucking douche. Give me your suggestion for a nice-ish mid sized vehicle (like a sedan) that doesn't guzzle gas, but won't make me look like an eco-freak.
I deal with cars all day. I just want to see your suggestion, Seņor Car Guru.

Well, I'm a buy American freak and I'm pissed off at GM and Chrysler for taking baillouts so I'd have to reccomend an optioned out Honda Accord (built in the U.S.). I hate to give Ford any credit because they always build bland cars, but the Ford 500 is actually an incredibly comfortable, powerful and reliable automobile. If you're a person of small stature choose a BMW 3 series sedan for about the same price, it's a damn good looking car with lots of credential, but if you're six foot two inches tall like me you won't fit. For a little bit more money, you can get an equivalent car with a little bit more prestige with the Mercedes Benz C class. The current C class styling is such it won't look old for a couple of decades. Just don't expect to fit in it comfortably if you're above six foot tall either. I wish the Germans could make an affordable car that didn't have to be driven by midgets.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, however, think of the literally millions of people who took a small cut of the sale of the McLaren F1. From the guy who mined the bauxite to make the aluminum components, to the guy who transported the taillight bulbs, to the guy who installed the seats millions of people took a little bit of money from the guy who had enough in his account to buy this car. I reccomend reading I, Pencil.. http://www.thefreemanonline.org/featured/i-pencil/

I had been considering an Infiniti or an Audi, but a Honda Accord with every option would be better with mah messy kids.

Don't let anyone know there's a time element on the road courses. Anything timed on public roadways, even if it's set up to keep you at the speed limit, is considered racing by a lot of the police. Bracelets and a free trip to the delousing station usually follow. Offer to take your mom along on a good day. I made a similar offer to an aunt. She didn't get well enough, but it made her happy thinking about it. I hope you get a chance to take her.

I've had three Accords - loved them. In fact, I had a FedEx truck hit the back of my 91 Accord at over 45 MPH - he took the tail lights and rammed them clear up the back of the rear seat - but the cabin was protected well enough that I was able to open the driver's door and get out of the car with no injuries whatsoever.
Only issues were the little fuel pump relay failing in hot weather and causing the car not to start (simple fix - take it out, re-solder the connections, put it back in - it'll last a lifetime after that), and the timing belt *must* be changed every 90K miles, without fail, to prevent engine damage on failure (if you don't, it absolutely will break and the pistons will take out the valves, as it's an 'interference' engine - i.e. the pistons will hit the valves if they are out of time).
One consideration with kids - if you get an Accord, either get one with leather interior or have a trim shop convert the interior to leather (costs around $1800 - I had mine done)... with kids, it's the only way to go, since it wears like iron, cleans up easily and it doesn't stain or pick up smells like cloth - and it will really preserve the value of the car.

I'm 6"1' and I have no problem in my 3 series. A couple of years ago the front door panels swept in and reduced leg space, but that issue is gone. I know taller people who drive the 3 series...

Shrug, that's why they have the 5 and 7 series. I'm 6' and am comfortable in my 325, though I can't wear any of my more stylish chapeaus.

What was the point of destroying that Bel-Air?
Disgusting waste of a sweet car....besides - the guy in the new Malibu lost his legs and probably his dick...sometimes it's better to take the quick head shot.

A different version of the vid had "experts" concluding that the Malibu dummy had "minor injuries" while the Bel-Air dummy was maggot food.

I definitely agree that crumple zones offer far superior odds of survival, however the footage plainly showed the firewall giving way which means leg destruction and possible lower torso destruction due to "submarining" under the belts (enhanced risk to "rollers" with the seat laid back)

Took the SRT out to stretch it's legs tonight; had been awhile. Laid down a few long tracks but she bogged halfway through thirds, I imagine its about time for a rebuild.
Can't complain too much, am still averaging 28mpg on the commute and I doubt she's dropped below 13.9 yet....

I took the Vette out for the first time this year about a week ago. After about two hours a parts runner from the local Ford dealer backed into it busting up the driver's rear fender. It's the third time it's been backed into in the last two years, at least I'm keeping it in fresh paint.

That really sucks, I just took the SRT off of the street this year, have garaged her and started a resto - picked up a Grand Cherokee to haul the boys back and forth to practice in as they outgrew the Neon. But wouldn't you know it, gas prices are through the roof again.
