Move High-Steet to FluxBB and -PAY- our furry code freaks to write a site-wide, random display art selection app, site licensing proceeds directed to Cruel Con Amsterdam™.
I don't care where the money goes. Costs are negligible and ads suck wind.

I defer to people whose knowledge makes their opinions worth something. If it's good for the site, I'm in favor of it.

Members select from the site's art archive - sorted by display totals - for the banners and side images they want to see.
If they don't choose any images, they get the g-rated, non member list.

It's a cool idea and could generate serious site license fees.

Explain this, please. It sounds like just another graphic feature to me.

I think what he wants is to be able to license the image rotator to other sites for a fee.

Tard porn is big. How about we all simply post pictures of ourselves, naked?

Yes. How much you want for it?

What's the going rate? I have absolutely no clue how one charges for this sort of stuff.

Since PunBB is licensed under the GNU GPL, while you are free to charge as much as you like for it, the buyer has the freedom to redistribute as many copies as he wants, at whatever price (or no price).
It seems to me that a mod-writing business is only really viable if you are either getting fully paid up front to write them or if you sell them and then provide ongoing support and maintenance for which you can charge.

A universal plugin adaptable to most any siteware, commercial or GPL?
edit: Same question I asked Orange+. What's it worth to you?

This would be correct. But it's basically saying, "Here, let me take Square's work, Pale's (or Taint, or whomever) banners and then make this marketable thing out of it." The rotator and voting hacks are already salable mods, as is. Now you just have to flip over a rock, find a den of PunBB enthusiasts, and charge them some nominal fee for the license to use the code (because the instant its out in the public domain for free, it will be stolen, which is not to say some savvy sort can't already reverse engineer it just from looking at how it functions).

Please stop addressing me that way. I'm not your run-of-the-mill miscreant. I've actually spent two years reviewing websites, and their coding/hacks/mods, for an admin's forum, and in case I haven't spelled it out before (by my haughty language and otherwise condescending mien) you really ought to pay heed when I talk about this sort of thing, if nothing else. Why the fuck would I mention any of it if I didn't want HS to succeed to the best of its ability? It serves us all if it does. My purpose, mostly, in reviewing those websites was so that their owners and admins could improve membership, and participation, ergo revenue. Simply because you've suddenly developed an interest in revenue doesn't mean I'm automatically going along with every concept you cook up.
To the best of my understanding, you have an excellent coder (for this boardware) in Square. He could easily apply his talents to licensed, fully functioning forum software. If I were to kiss all my banners (i.e., graphic work) up to god, just for the sake of improving your revenue stream, then you'd still owe him for coding all that, 'til the cows came home. Clearly, he understands he's doing it for the larfs, or else he'd already have hit you up for the hundreds of dollars his work is worth. To be honest, tho, I don't know that he hasn't.
We're all on the same page here, really. I want you to make money, if it's feasible, and would be more than willing to sacrifice current and future graphics endeavors to the betterment of this site. However, you are biting a hand that could feed you directly. I shouldn't have to prove that I have your interests at heart, especially when you ask me something as puerile as "[you] offered what in its place?" I would happily craft new revenue streams for you, Choad, but you are stuck in your ways about how this site should look and what functionality it should have, and I'm not just talking about sissy shit like avatars and sigs.
You need to get over whatever's stopping you from "throwing the doors wide" and letting in the cannon fodder that is n00bz. Once you have a decent subscriber base, THEN you can either look into advertising or charging for premium membership (the ability to change other people's avatars, at SA.com, is an example that might work well here). In short, we need more PEOPLE before we can start making decisions about revenue streams.
Your banner code idea is not novel. Many such hacks already exist, and this in no way is intended to impugn Square's work for HS. The idea that his code can be combined with my artwork, to make you money, is only acceptable on the level that everyone at HS may benefit...and denying the fact of the matter that many such coded tidbits already exist and with far better graphics than I could give my free time to creating.
Bottom line: You do not exist in a vacuum. There are plenty of people here who want to help, but who don't want to see that they'll be shut out because you're challenging anyone who disagrees with your ideas. For all any of us know, there's some otherwise worthless n00b who knows precisely how to code and market the thing you're talking about and we're all busy shitting on him (or her) because that's "just what we do around here." Frankly, I'd like to be known for a little more than that. Don't you?

I have zero interest in coding for money (not to mention that outside employment is a big pain in the ass). It's all about making this place a little more entertaining.
On that note, I've been investigating side-banner voting, but probably won't have a lot of time to devote to it in the next couple weeks.

I'll do it for $6.50 (CAN) and a peek up Roger's skirt.
(What do you think she keeps up there?)
Look, we all know that the only people who make $$$ on the Internet are the big players and the porn players. Forget everything pENIx said and turn H-S into a nasty porn site with ascerbic commentary - we can take turns writing headlines and pornatorials, and ultimately start making our own product. I'll bet there isn't a woman on this site that doesn't have a vagina - and every single one of them could be making money. Let's not shilly-shally. Dirk, by all accounts, can do the muffin-stuffin' - Taint and pENIx can do icky gay things. Let's make this work, people, if not for me, then for Choad.

No lie.

Plymouth, MA. The distant mainland is Duxbury, MA. The tiny foreground settlement is private, invitation only and accessible only by boat or 4-wheel. This is the only US lighthouse limey evil doers ever shelled.
I clammed and snorkeled for lobster here in paradise last week.
