The Wikipedia article on this terrorist sure is damning. I mean, all Ayers did was plant bombs on US soil. It's not as if he did the seriously "terroristy" things Singlaub did like parachuting behind German lines in WWII or earn terrorist awards like the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal and Purple Heart. It's hard to believe any former US serviceman let alone Congressman would have anything to do with such a reprobate.
This one is right out of James II's world.

Obama was 8-years-old when Ayers had his affiliation with the Weather Underground.
In this case, Singlaub was a family friend and actively involved in promoting terrorist activities in Latin America when McCain had his relationship with him.
The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.
On the level of seriousness, McCain's relationship with Singlaub, an active terrorist at the time, is much more damaging that Obama's relationship with a college professor, which is what Ayers was when Obama met him, who had been out of the so-called terrorism game for over 30 years.

Some of us would call this man and his fight against the Sandinistas patriotic.
Obama's relationship with Ayers will be coming out over the next few days now that documentation has finally been released. Seems Ayers raised hundreds of millions of dollars to indoctrinate Chicago's kids into radicalism, and Obama was hired to distribute the money to the various "programs".

Yeah, and some, who were the in the path of the contras, would call them terrorists. I guess it depends on whether you, as a civilian, want to LIVE or you want to help the US crush communism. I think most people would choose life.
Also, where's a source for your assertion on Ayers, or is this going to be one of your usual unsubstantiated posts.

"An active terrorist"? You mean he made bombs like Ayers did? Gimme a break. If supporting the Contras means he was a terrorist then so was the President at the time. No doubt you consider Reagan to have been a terrorist as well. Hey, if that's the case then most of the Senate and House was comprised with people who were "associated with a terrorist" given that so many of them had dealings with the President (yes, Democrats included). Why, lots of those folks even voted to support the Contras. Terrorists all of them, eh? Maybe the Obama campaign should run with that angle.
Like I said, this is right out of James II's world.

You know HKH, nowhere in the article you linked to is The U.S. Council for World Freedom described as a terrorist organization nor is Maj. Gen. John Singlaub referred to as a terrorist (active or otherwise). So I guess this thread is just another example of a "Lie from the Left" not to mention an attempt to "Demonize the Right". Yes, an OPINION column counts as an objective news story. It's not. This artlcle is about as distorted and biased as they come.
I grew up in Chicago. I went through its school system. I am actually familiar with the CAC (and other organizations like it) and there mission. It had nothing to do with spreading a radical agenda and everything to do with trying creating solutions to engage students who are at risk. There is a huge disparity here. What works in educating middle class kids doesn't work on the West Side of Chicago. At the time, it was thought that if you introduce these kids to afrocentrism and find something that interested them on a personal level, then they would connect with education. That is just one example, and of coursr, this was of course fought vigorously by the schools, as it interfered with their existing curriculum that wasn't working. Their reisistance to CAC is the same resistance they have to charter schools. They don't want any competition.
Also, I'm on the board of non-profit right now that is pretty powerful. I don't know the political affiliation of any of the other board members, nor do I care. I am only concerned with carrying our the mission of the board. I am also not involved in the day-to-day operation of the organization. To say that Obama's role as a board member makes him an accomplice to acts that occurred 40 years prior is just ridiculous.
PS -- I actually worked on a project with Ayer's wife, who is also an attorney. I guess that means I have ties to terrorists too.

1. To think that no terrorism was involved in supporting the Contras is just ridiculous.
2. If that's your criteria, no where is the CAC, Aver's organization, described as a terrorist organization, and thus the linking of Obama to terrorists is equally assinine.

No, but if you had worked with Ayers' old girlfriend (the one who blew herself up while working on a frag bomb for the terrorist group she and Ayers belonged to) then you would be. And if she and Ayers had supported your bid for office the ways Ayers did Obama then even more so. Call me up tight but I wouldn't want to associate myself (or my campaign if I were running for office) with a bomber.

HK, so your friends with Bernardine Dohrn? I had the hots for her years ago.
So... with that said, if someone pays their 'debt' to society, and turns around and does good work, they are still 'terrorist'? I viewed Billy and Bernadine as Revolutionaries, and no, I didn't approve their methods, but are they terrorist because they didn't prevail? If they had, this dialog would be far different. Remember, George Washington was described as a 'Terrorist' in his day....

Wow, just wow.... I can't think of any better way of keeping ghetto kids in the ghetto than indoctorinating them with a victim mentality and communism/socialism..... "Let's teach these kids how bad whitey is and how unfairly they've been treated then teach them to expect money from the government!!"..... There is a place for social programs when a person has short term unemployment or when natural disaster strikes, but if you're able bodied and can work you need to be supporting yourself like an adult.... Far too many people out there are on government assistance and it's just so incredibly natural to them and they even expect it... If a person is accepting government assistance they should be embarrassed about it.... They should be embarrassed because they are LIVING OFF OF SOMONE ELSE'S MONEY!!!! If they want those kids out of the ghetto and living their lives as productive adults they need to teach them skills that they can use to get a JOB.... I would rather rob someone at gunpoint than rob them by taking government assistance, robbing someone at gunpoint just seems so much more honest to me..........

Terrorist group or no, the WACL had some questionable alumni:
Yaroslav Stetsko, a Nazi collaborator who in July 1941 presided over the
extermination of 7,000 Jews; Stefano delle Chiaie, a fugitive Italian
terrorist wanted for robbery, kidnapping and murder; Mario Sandoval Alarcon,
architect of the Guatemalan death squads; Chirila Ciuntu, a Romanian fascist
who participated in a 1941 massacre of Jews; Ray Cline, former deputy director
of the CIA; Jess Helms, Republican Senator from North Carolina; Fred Schlafly,
Phyllis' husband; General Jorge Rafael Videla, former Argentine dictator now
imprisoned for mass-murder; and Roger Pearson, a scientific racist whose books
on racial superiority are still sold today by American neo-Nazi groups.

I kind of remember the stir the Jack Anderson and various followup investigations on WACL related death squads caused. It will be entertaining to see Zookie and Phreddy make excuses for all excusable excess of patiotism contained there in.
Singlaub told AP that "certainly by 1984," he had purged the World Anti-Communist League of extremists. Singlaub complains that American news media wrote that the league hadn't gotten rid of extremist elements and tried to tarnish the league's credibility, "making something evil out of fighting communism."

Did is say that was what the programs were about? People on the right have a hard time with reality. It teaches them about Africa and great African civilizations to try to connect them with a history that is unrelated to slavery and oppression. It tries to do the exact opposite of what you suggest. There was no victim indoctrination and no socialist agenda. I have problems with the program for other reasons, based purely on academic merit, but you are dead wrong.
Also, THE MONEY WAS ALL PRIVATE SECTOR MONEY. There were no government handouts involved, which is what you libertarians espouse.
