Yeah, it's from the 70's, so you wouldn't possess the historical perspective.

Apparently you are a rather younger person than I had assumed, Pale.
Sigmoid's banner is of the original joke, created by Michael O'Donoghue, a very funny man whom I admire immensely.

Don't you mean the past tense of 'admire?' It seems he died, rather young, in 1994. As for my age, I never made any bones about that, but it's funny how we all perceive each other, online. When O'Donoghue died, I would have been 23. You do the math.

OK, then. Incidentally, how old did you think I was...or did you just presume every male in the joint was 45-55, curmudgeonly, and enjoying a "second adolescence?"

A) I figured you were about ten years younger than me. :p
O'Donoghue's take on the human race was about equal parts bewilderment, rage and despair, and out of this he made funny, and I've always loved it. He's like a spiritual father of High-Street. I do wish he had not died so early; I'm guessing he'd have felt gleefully at home on the Internet.
B) I like the "place for fiends" banner but not as much as your original "place for assholes" banner, which still makes me giggle a bit.

Sadly, I can't claim that particular one for my own. The filename doesn't look like one I would have used. However, a "MySpace Keyboard" at my site predates it by about 18 months.

I'll have to take credit for it. I was rather proud of that one, I have to admit.

I love that NatLamp cover! A couple of years ago, I used that idea to entice our staff to join our school's Sunshine Club...

It's a great idea that's been plagiarized many, many times. I remember seeing a cover of Spy magazine warning, "If You Don't Buy This Magazine, We'll Burn This Flag."

Did anyone ever read the National Lampoon High School Yearbook parody? I grew up on that. A classic that warped my little mind forever.

Absolutely! I was a subscriber back when it was really a decent magazine. Loved the yearbook as well as the Dacron newspaper, too. One of my most cherished literary possessions is a copy of the "National Lampoon Tenth Anniversary Anthology". The Spiro T Agnew letters are worth it alone.

That one, their Beatles parody issue, and an alternate-universe "history" of how America might have turned out had JFK not been assassinated, were cherished treasures of mine long after the paper had gotten all crackly and musty-smelling. The attention to detail in the humor was mind-boggling.
At some point I lost them in some apartment move, so now I no longer have any proof that National Lampoon used to be funny.

Well, at least you're not "tooting your own horn" (Oh, give me that fucking look - Like I care). But - Yeah - That is a good one.

Make up your own definition. We'll all start using it, inject it into the mass consciousness and leave our stamp on the culture!
