it's such an enormous cliche but i watched a jumper (investment banker) end it from my office window (downtown Houston TX) off an adjacent 10 story parking garage this past Friday.
after that i saw these reports and i couldn't help but wonder (until they caught him, that is).
for what it's worth - watching someone end their life is fucking surreal to say the least.

Holy fuck.
Say, anybody keeping a tally? Just the investment bankers, brokers and the like.

Why bother, we already bailed them out - now it's just the crooks in the news.

it wasn't so much 'holy fuck' as it was:
"wow -- there's a guy standing on the ledge on the parking garage ten floors up"
"wow -- there's a guy falling montionless to the ground from said parking garage ten floors up"
it was just bizarre and i kept thinking to myself "WTF?"
i've seen a lot of bad endings in my time - that ranked up there with the top three saddest.
no amount of money of lack thereof is worth ending your life for.

It was funny at the time: life, flashing before your eyes, your own private sound track, the wind whipping your clothes as you plunged down the side of the building....

Wait!!! You can't hear that wind, after all if you want to take a header off of a high rise you must use a Tojo approved helmet. After all, we must protect you from yourself.

that's good, dmtdust :)
it just put the zap on my head because i work with these people 10 - 12 hours a day 6 days a week.
i don't so much have sympathy for them but i honestly feel sorry for them.
they're incapable of seeing the forest for the trees, their own failings and misconceptions, their morality in some manner that isn't tied to a fucking dollar. it's just sad and i expect to see more of it if only because someone already did it and now some motherfucker will come along and do it as well just because he knows someone else got away with it.
as opposed to getting a grip and owning up to your life.

I have to agree. Considering the shit I've personally experienced and what I've seen others in my life endure, I can't imagine ending it all because I can't afford a gym membership at the Four Seasons. Jesus.
