I ran across one of those "traveling foodie" shows one evening, and saw a Brit in Peru eating cuy for the first time. He raved about it pretty convincingly, telling the viewers at home to raid their kids' pet cages (and tell the kids the angels had come for little Squeaky).
The little rodent things were bred for food in the first place. I can't think of a reason they wouldn't be at least as good as rabbit.

We had wild cuy living in the woodpile when I was a kid. We spent way too many hours trying to devise traps for them, but we were no good at it.
They're immensely useful. If you get sick, the curanderos can rub your body with the cuy to absorb the sickness, and then it's killed and eaten as a soup, and in certain rituals a live guinea pig will be broken open by hand and the entrails used for haruspicy before being offered up as a sacrifice.
It's one of the few topics that I find interesting that it's hard to get information on from the Internet, other than a few bland white papers.
