1.) That chick has deeply offended me. Not everyone who likes organic gardening is a fucktard who thinks it's gonna save the world. Some of us are capitalist assholes who just like to grow veggies. And it's not free to grow shit. Just ask poor Mr. Sofie, who compares the cost to Whole Foods, and has had to spring for hundreds of dollars worth of mountains of rotten cowshit, peat moss, and vermiculite over the past couple decades.
2.) Some people should forget sleeveless fashions exist.
3.) Vegetables do not and never have grown on trees. I'm willing to bet she has never actually tended a vegetable garden. She makes it sound like living in the Garden of Eden, when it's actually a lot of hard work.
4.) I am sending this to my hippie brother who lives in Monterey. He will crack the fuck up.

Wow. I thought the liberals in my community were out of their fucking minds. At least they know that veggies don't grow on trees...and that frozen fruit and veggies don't last forever...and that dogs don't talk...oh, and that land is NOT free. OMFG, what the hell is wrong with those people?

and Sofaqueen, in their defense, things are supposed to grow in Santa Cruz. They have this really cool thing there that you might not be totally familiar with. Water. It actually falls out of the sky there. It tends to bring down the cost of growing veggies.

When San Francisco begins to wear on me, I just look across the bay to Berkeley or south to Santa Cruz and I begin to feel a whole helluva lot better.

I guess Justin Wilson is in the Witness Protection Program. They told us he died a few years back.
Ahh, much better!

I understand that concept. Of water. Before I had to contend with the driest climate in North America, I gardened in Southern California. Weirdly enough, in some ways it's better to grow shit here. The growing season here is the longest, and there are no pests other than rabbits. The soil is sandy and well drained once you correct the alkaline ph level and add compost.
You'd be surprised at how mulching and hand watering out of cups makes the cost of water pretty low. I'm talking about the other materials (including seeds) that cost a bloody fortune. Trust me, that girl knew jack shit about actual gardening.
And for your information, it's aboot to rain here right now.

5 hours of sprinkles is significant, Taint.
One thing I don't miss about Cali - Stormwatch '09 (or whatever year it might happen to be).
Every time it rains, it's a news event.

Yes.
I've left the happiest place on earth for Canada.

There must be some horrible brain disease like kuru circulating in Santa Cruz. I could feel brain cells die while I was watching that clip. I will keep an eye on a young relative who just moved there. I’m horrified at the idea that he may catch it.

Well no matter the extreme levels of stupidity, if they went to go to UCSF, you can be assured they go to school on the prettiest campus ever devised (it's in the freakin woods like some fairy village) and has access to some really great, cheap, plentiful weed where the MJ laws are routinely ignored by everyone, especially the cops.

You guys have obviously neglected your civic duties and not attended the local council meeting. We should have Choad speak up at this point. He can wax prosaically about the inbreeds in his locale. This is not specific to Santa Cruz. You are just jumping on the meme that has been promulgated through out the media... believe me, this is repeated everywhere, by every stripe of citizen.

Sorry O+...its a common misconception that all Canadians talk that way..but its a Toronto/southern Ontario thing..just like a bawston accent or a Texas drawl..its localized.

I beg to differ. I've lived in both Ontario and Quebec, and have many friends in the West. There are distinct traits to Canadian English that carry throughout the whole country. The real differences occur on an individual level. A good friend who grew up in northern Alberta has what most would consider the "classic" Canadian accent, and it's quite heavy. Another friend, from Edmonton, speaks with a far more "CBC" newscaster accent.
Anglos I know who grew up in Quebec sound very distinct from their New England neighbors and while they have many Canadian traits in their English, their speech is heavily influenced by French.
