...looks like JJ Abrams is in deeper shit then I originally thought.  First he proved with the now shitty show Lost that he can't actually do a real story line(which he improvised by making mysteries, and when that novelty ran old making more mysteries).  Star Trek is now looking more like a serious version of Galaxy Quest then it is to any degree of the original series.  He'll most likely take a Michael Bay like approach of taking out intelligent thinking and put in really pretty flashy things.

I've been saying that this one's going to be a stinker from when I first heard about it.

The bit with young Kirk driving a car off a cliff for No Goddamned Reason has led me to start calling this Star Trek: Tokyo Drift.  This has annoyed some of my Trekkie friends who are under the delusion that it'll not suck.

Those who mindlessly consume anything Trek were excited when it was announced Abrams was going to direct.  Armageddon?!  He sucks.  Has he done anything good?  I have been calling it “JJ Abrams’ Star Trek babies” to piss off the sheep.

What? I thought that "Lost" show was supposed to be the greatest show ever?

Thank god I've never wasted my time watching...

Just because 'Lost' is better than almost everything else currently on the TV doesn't mean it's "good."

I missed that trailer.  Is Spock in the car with him?  Are they holding hands as they go over the cliff?

80% (minimum) of all Trek movies suck.  That doesn't keep the faithful from seeing them.  And yeah, I'm one of those pathetic junkies who go in for a fix with each new Trek movie hoping that it won't suck (but expecting it probably will).

I got hooked on Lost last year.  Had to go back and watch all the episodes from the start.  Fort Bra, the fact that the plot lines require you to actually use your brain and that you won't see through every twist doesn't make it "bad TV".  You've just gotten used to TV written for people who like to shift their heads into neutral and drool on themselves while watching.

And while we're talking TV, nobody better say anything bad about House!

House and Law and Order reruns are all I'll watch on TV (ok, Flight of the Concords, too).

House is my man-god. He is the greatest TV character, ever.

Speaking of Star Trek, I use to watch Boston Legal. James Spaders' closing arguments made that show the best thing on tv (except for House, or Law and Order).

So a giant boat wheel has been under the island for ages and when you turn the boat wheel it moves the island...this is good writing?

You are either not smart enough or not smug enough to get "Lost".

I'm thinking "Lost" has the greatest peer-pressure inspired fan base of all time. I bet if you gave 1/2 the Lost audience truth serum, you'd find most of them only watch it because everyone else says how great it is and they want to seem "hip".

The first one is very underappreciated.  I think it's the best of them, in some ways.

jesusfuckingluvspegging you rule!  It had the best production, trippy pre-digital effects, and less hammy acting thanks to director Robert Wise.

It was the most real-science-fictiony of them.  I love that sequence at the beginning where they fly you past the Awesome Fucking Ship for several minutes.  All the other movies have tried to recapture the magic of that flyby scene and all the other movies have FAILED.

From Macleans-

"The first thing detectives from the Toronto police sex crimes unit saw when they entered Roderick Cowan's apartment was an autographed picture of William Shatner. Along with the photos on the computer of Scott Faichnie, also busted for possessing child porn, they found a snapshot of the pediatric nurse and Boy Scout leader wearing a dress "Federation" uniform. Another suspect had a TV remote control shaped like a phaser. Yet another had a Star Trek credit card in his wallet. One was using "Picard" as his screen name. In the 3 1/2 years since police in Canada's biggest city established a special unit to tackle child pornography, investigators have been through so many dwellings packed with sci-fi books, DVDs, toys and collectibles like Klingon swords and sashes that it's become a dark squadroom joke. "We always say there are two types of pedophiles: Star Trek and Star Wars," says Det. Ian Lamond, the unit's second-in-command. "But it's mostly Star Trek."

The early parts of the series were good...but then they gradually started changing the prime steak that was Lost to elephant shit, now that its completely elephant shit, dedicated fans still insist it tastes good.

Actually, that's happened to a lot of good shows, over the years. There are many-a-series that would have been more epic had they gone 1-2 seasons and then quit rather than cannibalize themselves.

I'm going to take off the Ptah helmet for one sec and say that it isn't fair for me to crap on something I've never seen. Some smart folk seem to like the shit out of the show so what the fuck do I know, eh?

As far as Star Trek goes, I really think there were some brilliant episodes of Next Generation... The one where Picard lives an entire life in his mind and the one where they kept repeating time comes to mind.

The repeating one (where they hit some other ship and the explosion causes them to revert back to a day or so earlier) was first watched at my house by a bunch of tripping folk who thought the tv was busted or something. We were playing cards and only had it on in the background. I vividly remember my cousin saying, "dude, I swear that show keeps repeating itself" so we stopped and, when they went back again we were like "whoa!".... They did it so that each repeat happened on a commercial, which really made for a cool experience the first time you watched it.

Ok I'm babbling like some trekkie. I liked the original series ok. It was way ahead of it's time. I liked some of the Next Generation (although about 1/2 of it bored me to death), the rest I never caught on to.

Ok, Ptah hat back on.

You all are a bunch of felchwizards and pootie-pushers.

edit: man, when I removed the helmet my grammar and spelling got even worse!!! EGAD!!!

Another one I've missed out on but my mom raves about. (yeah, ptah has a mom. He wasn't hatched or spored or whatever, for christsakes!)

I guess she really digs how they capture the era with the smoking and martini lunches and whatnot.

Yeah, that was the problemSeveral minutes.  They put more effort into pretty scenery shots that were dragged out too long than into an exciting Start Trek script.  In other words, it was not what anyone was looking for when they went to a Star Trek movie.  Wrath of Khan was and rocked because of it.

I liked Mad Men before it was cool.  It actually reminded me of Crime Story, the series that ran from 1986-1988, which was set in the 60s, because of it's attention to detail with the set.  Also, I like the idea of showing what executives did back in the 60s...drink and smoke in their offices and have sex with their secretaries while the bored wives sit in the suburbs and try to figure out why they are so damn unhappy.

'Course I did; that's why I posted it.  I expect to see a lot more of this pic on the interwebs after this movie's release.

P.S.  Chekhov could backwards-read?  Bit of a surprise, that.
