Why are the taxpayers putting up with the waste of their tax dollars to prosecute this man?  This is money that could be better spent on education (and Thor knows the children of Kansas are not getting the best possible education), conservation, or any number of other areas that would benefit the people of Kansas.

Unfortunately, fnord, a lot of the Kansas taxpayers footing the bill actually want it to be spent this way.

Elective late term abortion-I'll go ahead and say it, okay, so hate me-is disgusting. I mean, barring some horrible reason like illness of the mother or disability or something in the fetus, I do think it needs to be outlawed, because it's lazy and wrong. Believe me, you know when you're pregnant, and if you're too fucking stupid to figure it out by week 20 -you probably need an adult abortion.

I'm almost positive that it is already outlawed, in all fifty states.  Late-term abortions are only allowed in the circumstances you described.

Wait a minute, lemme check...Well, it looks like we're both sorta right:

As of April 2007, 36 states had bans on late-term abortions that were not facially unconstitutional (i.e. banning all abortions) or enjoined by court order. In addition, the Supreme Court in the case of Gonzales v. Carhart ruled that Congress may ban certain late-term abortion techniques, "both previability and postviability".
Some of the 36 state bans are believed by pro-choice organizations to be unconstitutional.  The Supreme Court has held that bans must include exceptions for threats to the woman's life, physical health, and mental health, but four states allow late-term abortions only when the woman's life is at risk; four allow them when the woman's life or physical health is at risk, but use a definition of health that pro-choice organizations believe is impermissibly narrow. Assuming that one of these state bans is constitutionally flawed, then that does not necessarily mean that the entire ban would be struck down: "invalidating the statute entirely is not always necessary or justified, for lower courts may be able to render narrower declaratory and injunctive relief."

While late term abortions are nothing to jump up and down and cheer about, there are good reasons why they should be legal.  Any adult woman who lets an unwanted pregnancy drag on is either in a situation where arranging an abortion is difficult or is a total loser who is too busy trashing the baby with crack, alcohol or other drugs to care about her own condition.  In the former case, the woman should not be penalized because it was difficult for her to arrange to end her unwanted pregnancy.  Also, really obese women who don’t have regular cycles may not realize they are pregnant until they are far along.  As for the total fuckup drugie alcoholic women, their crotchfruit are certain to be highly defective burdens on society that would be better off never being born.

While I do have very strong ideas about what are and are not correct ways to lead one’s life, I don’t think it’s appropriate for the government to make those decisions for people.  Until we live in a society that values children, where pregnancy isn’t a potentially life-ruining event, where all pregnancies are wanted and result in healthy children who will grow up in good circumstances, until then we will have to allow and tolerate abortion.  The only sane way to reduce abortion is to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and make our society a more welcoming place for children and their parents.
