5 people and nobody knows the Heimlich? Doesn't anybody take first aid courses any more? I guarantee that no matter where you live in the country there is a course this week within 20 miles of your house (unless you live in the boonies I guess). I've used the Heimlich twice so far and it was always with a group of people standing around watching someone turn blue.

I think we should blame the victim. He failed to give the international sign of "I'm choking" by putting his hand up to his throat, and he failed to administer the self-Heimlich on the chair arm-- something that was taught in CPR training when I took it.
