At the risk of being accused of encouraging drug use:  Hit the bong, Sofie.  You can do better than this and we both know it.

Likewise, Dec.

I personally thought you'd be more of a $1500.00 a scene kinda guy when I first agreed to represent you, but the cat hairs clinging to your penis infuriated the last director I placed you with. The new HD resolution really shows every little thing, and now I'm stuck with a pornstar for the crazy cat-lady set making $50.00 a fucking scene.

Hit the bong, indeed!

The reason I'm asking is that I'm just getting my feet wet in this business...

Important tip: always watch where you step when on set.

Zero, but only for putting his own telephone number in there. Kudos to the half-baked response for treating the question as if it wasn't total spam, but the author really didn't provide much in the way of original insight. The same advice would work if you wanted to be an avocado farmer. "Move to California, look stuff up in the phone book, and ask around. Be prepared to get photographed with lots of over-ripe fruits."

It's a good way to end an acting career before it begins, but I suppose there's still room in politics, if your name is Jeff Gannon.

I have plenty of friends who earn a little extra money here in SF as porn actors (I have no idea why everyone who has a part in a fuckfilm is called a "star"), but for most it's not a particularly lucrative profession. What it does do, however, is give them publicity for their far more lucrative jobs as escorts. I suspect that really only works for men in the gay porn industry, however. Given what I've seen of most straight guys in breeder porn, they're lucky to even be having sex with the women in those films.

Take it from me, they don't care. If they did, they're just faking it. I can't make my immediate family look at it, let alone worry that some obnoxious cousin will stumble across it. Don't forget, these are the same people who forward you kitten-scented motivational posters and every other chain email scam out there. They'll only care about your site if they think you're saying shit behind their backs.

And no one else will read it if you aren't.

So basically, I should quit my job and do it huh? I mean, I am serious we have had many conversations about it. You know the main problem is, as I have stated before, I rarely - actually never - watch porn or know anything about porn sites. Where does the income come from? Annoying banners and advertising? People signing up?

I'm going to get a lot of shit for this one but hey I am in need of knowledge and even though I could ask the BF he knows nothing about the technical side of it.

One gal I played softball with does live cam performances for subscribers who request particular poses, actions, toys, etc.  She paid someone else for design, set-up, & upkeep, & makes a good amount of $$.  I was amazed - she's even older than I am and has no special appeal other than not being ugly.

You, honey, are a lying cunt.  If you cannot buck up and pay the admission price here then you sure as hell ain't gonna get whatever trailer trash you are currently sleeping with to fuck you on camera.  Or more importantly, get someone else to pay you for it.

That's really at the core of the industry, isn't it? Porn, for a lot of guys, seems to be more about the ability to "control" somebody, to make them do stuff for money. But I've heard it's very empowering for women, somehow.

Two things (and they're not questions): Don't quit your day job and don't do porn. The former, because you've got no experience and shouldn't make your learning curve a log flume into credit card debt. And the latter because, well...just don't.

The legal issues are a pain in the ass, almost to the point of saying your family's notice is the least of your worries. It's the sort of thing that takes some experience (to produce quality content AND to keep the site functional), and doesn't always translate from "the real world," if you're looking to bring a sex-related business online. That said, there are people you can pay and software products you can buy that make the task simpler, but they're not replacements for technical acumen (or having a salable "product").

Revenue streams come from all the things you've listed. Membership requires you to process credit card information securely, and like Il Douchey's example, you may charge "fees for service(s)" if you don't mind the sleazebags out there asking you to diddle yourself with an eggplant.

I have to agree.  The men in straight porn are hideous beasts, but that's because the porn is not made for women.  It's made for guys, and the average guy is a hideous beast who likes to think that were his cock just a bit longer he too could star in porn and fuck skanks with fake hooters the size of cantaloupes.

Kim, don't give up on your dream so fast!  You should try starting out slow and see how it goes.  Make a video and post it here.  There are a lot of skilled reviewers who would be glad to help you get your start.

The International Association for Porn Standards requires all male porn actors to have dicks that measure at least either 7.5 RI ("real inches") or 8.5 OI ("online inches"). As a fully accredited representative of the IAPR, I expect an opportunity to verify the measurements or I'll have to withhold your accreditation.

As much as I'd love credit for the unintentional zinger, my comment was meant more wryly. I have no idea what she looks like. Moreover, neither does she. Most female pornstars [starting off, at least] think they're hot shit on toast. They can't wait to get their pieces-parts onna teevee. They don't ask insightful questions of relative strangers about how financial and operational matters are handled.

If you and your boyf wanna take some homemade vids of you making the beast with two backs, then feel free. The decision to share such tender moments, for money, is a complete reality shift. If you're really set on doing it, then get some opinions from real-world friends and put some effort toward learning how film production is done. Sure, there are plenty of folks out there who want poorly lit, "real-life lovers"-genre amateur smut, but people post that stuff for free on sites like Xtube. Go check that out and see if it's something you want to tell your kids about in fifteen years.

No, I don't think I am hot shit or anything like that. The fact is is that I am looking for easy money. Simple as that. A nice home based business. Who wouldn't like to get paid for THAT? But already I have learned a number of things: Guys want to see sick shit, will most likely need better equipment (my iMAC is nice, but obviously not enough), porn is not hard to come by, and I'm not a big fan of eggplant.

Most importantly, I am lazy, hence wanting to get the hell out of my current job, and probably too lazy (and bitter) to accommodate said eggplant lovers.
All and all it is a lost cause. I think it's time to move into a trailer park and start a meth lab already.

I ran into a similar situation a few days ago. I was watching "Folsom Filth" by Titanmedia - a major gay porn producer. It's a ridiculous movie, as is all porn by definition. But it's also a major offender in that its "plots" are completely absurd, its actors - or "stars" as they prefer to be called - totally vacuous, and so polished and physically perfect they look like Ken dolls with tattoos and tit piercings. And, yeah, I was watching it.

Anyway... suddenly, a buddy of mine pops up as one of the performers. That's not a total surprise as I see guys I know in locally produced porn all the time. He was just so out of character it became impossible to think about anything other than how silly he appeared in all that leather drag.

Definitely a down-periscope moment.

Worst reason. For a porn career. Ever.

Seriously tho, it's not a real good fallback position, like bank robbery and the aforementioned meth lab. Running a porn site really does take work (even if the "talent" isn't also the "producer" etc.). If it were as easy as taking some mildly embarassing images and slapping them up on teh Intarwebz then, well...it'd be called "MySpace."

Pale's right, Kim. The guys I know who work in the porn industry are very committed to their work, and they work very long hours. Another friend of mine is a director and camera guy - he's frequently gone for seven to ten days a time on shoots, works 12 to 14 hours a day, and has to put out a lot of fires all day long.

He's making good money, but he's working his ass off. Figuratively speaking, that is.
