I never understood that particular slur. In terms of facial appearance and general behavior, and discounting pigmentation, blacks aren't any more apelike than whites.

People always seem to compare minorities they don't like to monkeys:

I was just having this conversation with a neighborhood porch monkey the other day while sharing a spliff. Why are monkeys so funny? And why are only some simians funny while others (apes, gorillas) not? And why do racist people portray blacks as monkeys when people love monkeys and hate blacks?
