In my definition... racists love or hate people according to their ethnic origin or skin color while bigots generally tend to love or hate people based on their culture and behavior. There's certainly some overlap, but it's not a subset.

I realize it's not accurate.  "I'm a bigot, not a racist" is usually said in jest among people who [at least think they] know what you mean.

When I first got involved with this crowd, I didn’t find it necessary to discuss my private life.  To be honest, given the efforts many people were making to uncover the identities of people they didn’t like and cause problems for them in real life, I felt the less said the better.  We’ve evolved from being shifting coalitions of bitter partisans to a group of long-term frenimies, so I’ve begun to feel less paranoid and more comfortable with sharing a few details about myself.
