OK, for the sake of argument, let's agree the husband was right to turn in his wife ("This hurts me more than it does you..."). Where in the gollygeewillickers, however, does the charge of child neglect come in?

Maybe the wife was too busy smoking pot with her bro to watch the kid...
When my nephew was a baby, my sister would put him in a closet and spoke pot while he just chilled there, breathing in all that shit too from the slats in closet door.
He grew up to be fucked up. Jailtime, sex offender, and drug addict.

What a dickhead! When you realize the relationship is no longer working, you take the kids (if any, and if you think the other party isn’t fit to take care of them) and leave. Or you ask the other party to leave if you think they will be reasonable about it. Fucking up your soon to be ex’s life by reporting them for drug use and saddling them with felony convictions should only be done if they are such bad news that the public would be better off if they were behind bars. This asshole has shown he can’t end a relationship with whatever dignity is possible under the circumstances, and should never get laid again.

I smoke pot right in front of my 12 year old boy (not often, but it has happened), and he's a straight-A student who gets Student of the Month and other honors (winning talent shows, science fair, etc.) so often, I'm running out of room for it all. People on the board can vouch for this, because I post blogs about him with proof. He learned in 2 days how to make websites, and makes money doing it. He has an animal care side business, and he does well with that, too. He's an excellent cook, and a responsible human being. He already knows what college he wants to go to.
But then again, I don't STICK HIM IN A CLOSET.
DON'T BLAME THE WEED.
That man should be ashamed of himself. I don't care WHAT she did to piss him off - that's the mother of his kids. If the pot was the worst thing he could pull out of his ass to get her on, he should consider himself LUCKY.

who gives a fuck? some dummy married a skank that is more interested in helping her brother grow and smoke dope than she is with her marriage. so he called the cops. good. now he'll have a legal leg to stand on when it comes down to custody.
count himself lucky? she should count herself lucky that she only lives in a society that capitalizes on peoples studipity instead of executing them for it. why the fuck should any parent ever have to let their child be exposed to something that is detrimental? why? she got caught doing something that the courts have to acknowledge is wrong. hence, the father can now try for custody legitimately. what's wrong with that?
if you're going to sit and defend drug use AND irresponsible parenting by the simple merit that "your child is straight A culinary genius who wrote the internet and you smoke weed" then why you don't extend it to all the fucking losers out there who systemically torment, abuse, torture their own children every single fucking day because they're to fucking dumb to put the pipe down?
you and your child are an extra-ordinary exception and you know this. so while you're dreaming your hemp paradise were we all wear clothes made out of hemp and drives cars powered by hemp and grow hemp for food - MOST drug users are being shit-holes if not down-right abusive fucks to their own kids who will then in turn grow up to be not straight A students at the very least.
fuck stupid people and fuck the dope flag wavers.

Actually Snotty, I know loads, absolute loads of people who raise there children well, whilst smoking dope etc. There are always exceptions. Loads of people drink alcohol and raise there children well. Then there are exceptions.
I'm hearin' issues here, no?

i agree that there are exceptions and i said as much specifically.
issues? yes. i had drug using parents who were abusive and i had a marriage fail because my then-wife decided that coke was more important. and most of my childhood friends OD'd or wrecked their cars/bikes and died or, perhaps worse, became "friends of bill" and turned into weird coffee swilling fonts of the most negative positive thinking i've ever encountered.
beyond that, i am just as tired of the dope apologists as i am of the fools who think america can ever be a "national socialist" society. it's moronic and counter productive to any sort of rational thinking. as far removed as those two issues are they are exactly the same with regards to how dumb they are.
i think i just godwin'd myself.

Snotski...
incredibly illuminating.
Sorry you had to run this gauntlet. Not one I would wish on anyone. I suggest tho, that the drugs are the symptom, and not the cause. Abusive parents come in all flavours, but they are still abusive.
I would posit that the ex had an underlying situation prior, which the coke helped along, and I share a number of the dead friends scenarios...

You'll have to excuse Dusty, as he's one of those people who don't believe in addiction. I'm not so simplistic as to believe that drugs are drugs are drugs (or users are users are users), but I've seen first-hand the devastation that addiction leaves in its wake. Suffice it to say that it isn't an easy subject to categorize.

I understand.
I was a terrible drug addict myself for a lot longer than I like to admit. I got to see some weird shit. But people are people, and it's like drugs amplify a person's personality. If they're an asshole, there's a big problem. Like they'd put a kid in the closet with or without the drug.
And make fun of it all you want, I created a fucking incredible kid...while on drugs!

Hold on there... Every addict I have known, and I have known tonnes, have had a prior mental, psychological pattern that can be traced. I have little sympathy for addicts, yes and I will be the first to admit it. Just the same, I have seen many just step away from it, and do something with there lives after they dealt with the underlying issues.
And Tojo, go fuck yourself.

Eat me, Dusty. You've said over and over how you feel, and now you're trying to weasel about it. You're no better than the Sarah Palins or others of the world who feel things in their gut and so make conclusions contrary to all available science. I'm glad you know people who have been able to get out of the grip, but denying the forces of addiction is no different than denying the existence of evolution.

I won't get into pinning down your words from before today, just pretend I didn't bring it up. The whole idea that the people you've known just already had psychological problems is no less flawed than the idea that anyone who takes a certain drug will be addicted. Are there people who are more susceptible to addiction? Of course. This is also a well established fact.
The plural of anecdote is not data, however.

Well, we did lose our little marijuana mascot, and High Street is a really common street name, like Main Street in some places.
Then again, a small amount of lurking should have been a clue that it would seem a bit...incongruous to take that tack.
