Well, that's nothing compared to how the Mormons eject teenage boys from their communities because they'd be in competition for wives. Regardless, this is how I like to put it: The Jews invented guilt, but the Catholics perfected it.
I know a woman at work--one of many I've met who has mixed parentage--who has a Jewish mother and a Catholic father. I've said to her, "It must be tough for you...choosing between whether to blame yourself for everything, or blame you mother."

But nope, it's just a callow CYA response. Not sure why I expected anything different.
Any other group would have long ago claimed (falsely) this to be persecution and a witch hunt. But the Catholic church can't really use that line of propaganda because they perfected the former and invented the latter. Still, I happily anticipate a slip up.

Nice - I'll have to re-member to "pull that one out" on my mother some-time. my grand-mama is Black-Sea Ashkenazi and grand-father is Roman Catholic. And, whilst secular her-self, you should hear the way that my mother talks about her mother. It must be some-thing in the genes.
