I have noticed in your music thread, titled after Dhalgren for some reason, that most of you listen to old obscure music that you might have a hard time finding on mp3, but is on YouTube, well I'm here to show you a way to take your dinosaur-like 8-tracks and get them on your iPod. Just follow the link at the bottom and it will show you the rest.

That's pretty neat.  But to download from Youtube and most other sites I just use the Firefox add-on called "Video DownloadHelper" - it's piece of cake and works flawlessly.  Downloads them as FLV files, and VLC will play them quite nicely.  DownloadHelper will do conversions, too, though I have little need for that function.

As the board's old fogey and audio purist, I prefer vinyl and CD's.

Damn sailor.  I’m impressed.  I have a few 78s.  Those things wear like iron.

I am not familiar with that one.  I use the Applian FLV player.

That reminds me of my daughter's reaction to my LPs at age 7:  "Daddy, what are those big CDs?"

Hoarder??

Collector.

Mostly jazz, swing, minstrel and obscure stuff, but there's a fair share of Caruso, Zimbalist, etc.

And I restore the Talking Machines for jollies when I have time.  My fav is that Sonora 'bombe' player - it's so good you'd never know it wasn't electronic... real mellow.

I really enjoy the progam my boy posted, because it saves me quite a bit of money.

The Apple store is outrageous. I have spent enough money with them to go on a vacation.

Maybe you should shift some of your music investment over to seeing live bands and collecting music in your head instead of in your closet.

You have reason to be proud of the boy.  He waltzes in here, insults everyone, and gets nothing but thanks for it.  Wonder where he picked up that skill...

Yeah...  it couldn't have anything to do with the little shitbird being a minor, among other things.
