I stopped watching daytime soaps in the mid-80s. However, from what I recall of that long-ago time, this scene is surprisingly similar to the hetero scenes I remember:
a) Gratuitous lit candles all over the place (seriously, who does that? Who even wants that hazardous shit all around the room?)
b) Gag-inducing "romantic" music so cringe-worthy you have to mute the sound so you can pay attention to the scene
c) A surprising amount of bare skin, which makes the avoidance of nipples a rather impressive achievement on the part of the camera operators (I wonder if they get special training?)
The het scenes had a whole lot more tongue, though.

Actually, George, the cost of training cameramen in the techniques of nipple avoidance was a major factor in deciding to go with gay sex scenes, where nipples are no biggie.
P.S.: In gay sex scenes, you don't wanna see where the tongues go, trust me.
