I caught that remark by Matthews last night, and I knew he was gonna catch shit for it, and I knew it'd be for all the wrong reasons.
Speaking for myself, I also forgot our President is (half!) black...except for every time the camera panned the crowd, and I'd think, "Fuck me, look at all the old white dudes!"
And then the camera would go back to Obama, and I'd think, "That man is President of the United Fucking States." And I'd get a little resurgence of the sheer, pure glee I felt on Inauguration Day.
Last night was a cheerful evening for me, overall.

So, you're one of the hardcore still feeling the Globama? This is a bit of a surprise. I assumed your well-skilled bullshit detector would have kicked in by now.

You may have misunderstood my glee. While I have not given up 100% on Barry yet, the source of my glee is more about:
a) the ability of this country to elect a non-white person to the highest office in the land, going by what he said (true or not) rather than what he looked like; and, even better,
b) the depthless dismay and helpless rage that the sight of a Darkie President engenders in a certain type of person whom I have had to endure all my life, and whom I loathe.
I'm really just gloating, basically.

Ah, that make sense. I know the type to which you refer. There are more of them in California than you would think.

So President Obama* attended a meeting of House Republicans in Ballmer today. The Internet says he killed. Here's an article. From the comments: "I watched this at work. No chance Republicans ever allow Obama to address them with cameras rolling again. What a demolition."
I understand that FOX News was airing the meeting live, but Obama was killin' so hard they stopped the broadcast before the meeting was over.
*I will never get tired of saying that.

He was killin? Did you watch the whole thing? He opens with yet another 20 minute campaign speech. He is so lost without his teleprompters. Note that he is reading virtually everything from the notes supplied by his handlers. This speech isn't directed at Republicans. He's selling the TV audience. The guy goes on and on about making government transparent. He has the balls to say this to the American public who have seen nothing about how his policies were developed because they were all crafted in secret. And he's addressing Republicans who were shut out of every piece of legislation since he took office.
Take a look at the rest of the meeting on YouTube when he finally starts taking questions. He answers them with the same retoric and nothing close to a commitment. He keeps saying he will consider the idea, or will discuss it more later, or we can work through the problem. In my opinion, he is a slick talking bullshit artist. Fortunately, the American public is starting to see him for what he is, a very smart and glib guy who has talked himself in over his head.

I watched the whole thing he answered questions in a clear and concise manner, he admitted to mistakes he's made and he pushed back hard when the questions were canned rhetoric.
I know you can't stand the fact that the man has brains and knows how to use them but the truth is he's good.

I said he was smart, but that doesn't mean he is competent. The budget he just submitted for next year is $3.8 trillion, of which $1.6 trillion is borrowed money. We are supposed to borrow over 40% of the money he will use to run government next year? Who in his right mind would think this is sound fiscal management of this country?

All 66 minutes. I loved it.

It does not sound like you saw the same video I did. Can you direct me to a link to the one you were watching?

He gave the participants whose questions were sincere his respectful regard and informed responses to their questions. He gave the posturing speechifying fools more good manners they deserved, but slapped most of 'em down in the end.
Honestly, I would really like to see this terrible disaster video Obama lost and stammering without his teleprompter and putting his foot in his mouth and embarrassing himself. Where is it?

What I said was that he is lost without his teleprompters and that he was reading his speech word for word. This was just an observation I made and it was in the video posted by Em. He also stammers every time he tries to make a point and the answer is not already written down and displayed on his teleprompter. He brought them along last week when addressing a sixth grade classroom. Whether he needed them to answer their questions is not clear, but I believe he doesn't feel comfortable unless they are there. I have a feeling that had George Bush relied on teleprompters every time he appeared in public, he would have been excoriated by the press.

They all rely on teleprompters, it's just the way it's done. The Q&A with the Repubs was free form and his delivery or message didn't waver at all.
If you listened without prejudiced to the Q&A you would understand the budget problem. The roots of the problem lie in a congress that has been completely irresponsible for the past two decades and the shambles of an economy brought on by the prior administrations disastorous decisions.
More importantly he pointed out that unless congress gets off it's ass and starts working on the problems instead of working on the next election cycle things are going to get worse.

Any president elected in this country is nothing more than a shill for our corporate masters. At least Obama does a good job of reading from the teleprompter. Shrub the Lesser did not have sufficient intelligence to read from the prompter without making absurd gaffes.

I watched the Q&A in it's entirety and I found him to be on his game. Phreddy, you are living a delusion. You just cannot admit that any Democrat might be intelligent. ALL public speakers use teleprompters for speeches. And even with a teleprompter, Bush couldn't talk his way out of a paper sack. The same goes for the lovely Sarah.
However I did notice that when the questions were answered, there was no speech written, and Obama did amazingly well. Especially the parts where he pointed out Republican lies. Dead on. Fact checked today and found that Obama was correct and Repubs were lying through their teeth. As usual.
It is sad that the Republican base will accept anything that comes out of their elected officials mouths as fact without even a thought to the fact that all politicians are full of crap. This is true for the Democratic base as well.
Until America cleans house and puts in some people who will run the country for the people and not for themselves, who will worry about what is best for America and not for their political future, we are doomed. Screw the two party system.
