Unfortunately for the pool, Chile had a magnitude 9.5 earthquake in the 60's and another big one in the 80's, so their buildings were more up to code than Haiti.

There are tsunami alerts for pretty much every landmass that has contact with the Pacific.

The Kiwis are making themselves look like idiots--although I doubt that Kiwis are the only people strolling down to the beach for a look-see.  Whenever there are hurricane warnings on the NC coast, you can count on seeing a handful of Darwin candidates in the water surfing.
