Funny, the New Madrid Quake measured 10+ and the rivers ran backwards. Due to the time frame it isn't counted.
If New Madrid shakes again the death toll will be in the millions.

The New Madrid was closer to an 8. A 10 would be 100x as powerful on the Moment magnitude scale. That said, another 8 would screw up some real estate.
