I can't defend the actions of these two, but the fact that they are running successful campaigns based on the military prosecutions against them should tell you something.  A large percentage of the public believes that Obama and his administration are anti-military and prosecution of these and other so-called war crimes have pissed people off.  You simply cannot hold members of the military, who are engaged in a war, to the same standards as you would hold the municipal police.  By the way Dusty, you forgot the "P".

No, this is a classic example of how actually conservative, conservatives vote; with their Medullas, and not their Fore-brains.  This is reptile reaction in every conceivable way.

Very similar to how Obama got elected.  Think about it.

Well, I voted for him because he seemed more cerebral (he's mocked for being professorial and "dithering," when he's really just making a brain decision rather than a gut decision) and generally seemed calmer and more collected than McCain. The whole rousing speech thing was just icing.

No.  People voted to move away from the Reptillian stance.  Think about it.  What they got was incremental change tho, not fast enough/clean enough for my liking.

Crimes that would have been punished under Geneva Rules previously have been ignored; this shows a break down in morality across the board.  Yes shit happens, but it was never condoned before as the previous administration demonstrated.

We should not scramble towards the bottom, but try to elevate the discussion, the dialog and the conflict.  To emulate the baser elements is a lose all situation.  The fact that people would vote for a war criminal is a sad commentary on their lack of critical thinking.

This discussion reminded me of this gem: "Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices." &  "All murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets." - Voltaire

I admit it.  I voted for Obama with my Limbic System (my R-complex is too lazy to vote).  But only because I saw this picture.
