Dangerous for America or Mexico???

Some people around here need to re-evaluate their position; the world doesn't have, never has had nor ever will have, a shortage of poor unfortunates willing to glam on and leech off of others hard won success.

I don't know, Emmeran, why don't you tell us?  What does your crystal supermarket ball say?

It says that you can't save the world Tojo and that you're foolish to even pretend to think that you can; it says that by supporting illegal immigration you are actually perpetuating the misery.

It also says that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

A might over-the-top, no?

Have you ever been to a construction site to watch the labor "leech?"  They are neither leeches nor proper subjects for derision.

Well that's an instance of self-serving, turning the world on its head if I ever read it.  I don't support illegal immigration, and recognize that "open borders" is just not an option.  Still, honesty requires admitting that they are not going to be less "miserable" if they are left in squalor in Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, etc., 'cause our squalor is a big step up if they find work here.   They are real people, with just as many nerve endings and synapses as you.  Reducing them to leeches or parasites just makes it all a little more comfortable as the wall gets built.

Nope - way the fuck over the top.

By providing an economic escape path in our country we are preventing the normal internal pressures that would occur to bring about change in their own countries.  Jose gets a job in America so he isn't marching in the streets back home demanding a job.  So yes, we are perpetuating the misery.

I am fully aware that many of the actions taken by our own government over the years have been less than helpful however this doesn't change the fact that these societies need to pull their heads out of their asses and get with the program.

I'm with Em on this one.  Illegal immigration from countries which cannot control their economies nor their birth rates will overwhelm those neighbors that do not take action to defend their borders.

In many ways, this is a preview of food shortages to come.  Are we going to try to keep the world's burgeoning population alive?  As Em says, this only perpetuates the misery.  We can force these countries to become self-sustaining now, or we can prop them up with food shipments until the day it all comes tumbling down and millions, if not billions, starve.

I know you can't save the world, but you also can't solve a problem if you don't understand it.  As long as you convince yourself that the problem with illegal immigration is a sea of welfare queens you will continue to prove that you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.   BTW, I love how you think I'm in an ivory tower casting judgement on you when I point out that you have absolutely no knowledge or experience about what life of an illegal immigrant is like when you're the one who is casting judgement on an entire group of people based off of nothing but your gut.

I'm not casting judgement, merely opining on the laws that should be enforced.  I understand why these people do what they do and I understand the impact it has on both societies; I also understand this is a world-wide problem.

But the fact that they stole across the border and camped out for 10 years doesn't suddenly give them the right to be here.  They are still foreign nationals and they are still trespassing and they need to go home.

We don't need to reform immigration law, our laws are on par with international standards; we need to enforce the laws we have..

What is there to understand?  We have a leak in our borders and a river of humanity is pouring in.  How many illegals will be enough?  Fact is, it will never end until we fix the leak.  If by understand you mean commiserate, I do.  Many of these people are just trying to feed their families and they will do whatever is needed to do that.  I would do the same.  However, the U.S. cannot be Daddy for every citizen of every banana republic that cannot control corruption and out of control population growth.  I feel for the people, but we have our own families to protect.

That's sad and embarassing; however we all know we cannot control that 10% of every population the insists on being an ass at every given opportunity.

That doesn't mean that we throw out our laws or stop working to become a fairly balanced diverse society through equal immigration opportunity.  Our immigration laws are still among the best in the world; we live in the most desirable society and the stated goal is balanced immigration from all corners of the globe.

Should we increase the legal immigration quotas?  I think so.

Should we work on legislation to insure immigration is fairly balanced for all four corners of the globe?  Yes.

Should we allow our immigration laws to be broken?  No.
