It's pretty cut and dried here; he confessed on a recordable medium and he's being tried by a military court. He wanted to be caught, he craved the attention.

The consequences of Bush Jr.’s stupidity in starting two unnecessary wars are going to haunt America for the rest of my life. The invasion of Iraq was a resource grab attempt pure and simple. And as for Afghanistan; we could have gotten bin Laden and his cohorts turned over to us without invading the country. I’m sure explaining that hundreds of missiles per day would rain on the country, and that the skies would be full of predator drones seeking out the Taliban leaders until such time the Al-Qaeda leadership was turned over to us would have been sufficient to make them cooperate. The irony is that both Saddam and the Taliban were Our Bastards who turned on us! Perhaps this is the main reason we invaded, to show future American Puppets that turning on us isn’t a good idea.

Fnord, you are probably cruising for an unexplainable car accident with talk like that. Quit pulling back the curtains, the puppets are getting uneasy.

Doesn't this war thing seem absolutely positively insane? It's nothing more than stupid worthless people without real jobs and stolen money killing other worthless insane people without real jobs and stolen money. I cannot begin to describe my hate for people that steal my money then use it to kill other people in progressively technological ways. There is no defense for them, they need to be exposed for what they are and shunned from society. Stop voting and destroy these twerps legitimacy. The second you vote you are saying that you accept this system of violence.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Panama, Grenada; we need a better excuse for our occupations.

the sterilization of modern warfare has a large part to play in that; the populace doesn't necessarily feel like it's been defeated.

I could give a flying fuck about these "innocent" intelligence sources. These people are dealing with what is nothing more than gangs of people with weapons and a blood lust. I know better than to deal with the KKK, the Black Panthers or any other violent gang. If you find the need to feed information to governments (which have killed around 300 million people in the last century) you open yourself to whatever you get. It doesn't matter what side you choose, if you help out people whose only tools are force and are only financed by theft you put yourself in a very vulnerable situation. Why the hell are we against Assange who is doing nothing more than exposing documents produced by extremely violent people? I remember people supporting Assange when he exposed the bullshit of Scientology, the Chinese government and Islam, so why are we so insulted when he challenges the bullshit and violence of our so called "rulers"?

Actually, the levels of homophobia and tolerance are different depending on where you're stationed. I'd say the vast majority of people from this generation of military don't care enough about it to bother someone for no reason.

I agree with you on the attitude of the generation; that doesn't mean he's going to fit in. When attempting you immerse oneself into a particular culture it is important to investigate that culture first to see if you will actually be happy there.

Some of the info coming out of these documents is pretty damned interesting. And it is obvious that some of it is classified to save face for the military. However, I'm with Emmeran on this one. When you join the military, you make a covenant not to question reasons behind the decisions of your superiors and certainly not to reveal any classified information. The old saying, "Your's is not to wonder why, your's is but to do or die" is not just a clever slogan.
Turning over classified documents, even for so-called reasons of conscience, is treason. And that would put Daniel Ellsberg where?
You're right there, mate. How goes it, D?
