I asked a religious relative if they would kill someone on G*d's command. He was in the affirmative on that... it certainly convinced me that religion was a dead end no matter which way you approached it.

The problem with your relative's position, apart from the fact that he would murder for some guy in the sky, is that god doesn't speak directly anymore and there are thousands who swear they are delivering his messages.
