At my daughters school they have a "carnival" every spring. The DARE guys are always there with their cars and stickers and the like. I always chat when them because they are usually running one of the fun booths like water balloon toss, so the kids always want to spend extra time there. I tell them that I don't think anyone should abuse drugs, so I can get behind their message 100%. I have never abused illegal drugs in my life and think that abusing drugs is a very bad thing. How can you argue with that?

I've known several DARE spokesmodels over the years and each of them, the cruiser idling somewhere out of sight, were avid weed consumers.
Their kids are grown now and I've had no end of fun asking, "Did you know?!"
Without exception, they did.

My son when in 5th grade was being bombarded with this Dare Crap and other nefarious anti-cultural shite by a evangelical teacher. She brought in one "reformed" drinker who told the kids that if their parents had one drink at night they were alcoholics, and if they took any drug they were addicts... (what 5th grader actually knows what that means?)... Anyway, I seized the moment and told him, "Son, I used to use drugs, and on occasion still do"..... He looked completely freaked until I pointed out what was the truth of the situation: Do you ever go hungry? Have I ever beaten you or your mother? Do I work steadily? Are we happy in our family? Have you ever seen me drunk or high? etc. etc. Then I took him home and introduced him to all the various plants I had been growing since he was a youngster... I allowed him to sit and listen to my friends when they discussed drugs, esp psychedelics. Nothing was ever concealed from him.
He has grown up now, drinks on occasion, never to the point of sheer drunkenness, having been raised with everything permitted in moderation and being allowed to have a bit of wine when younger with the family at the table if he so desired. Of course he has been corrupted by liberal and anarchist thinking as well. Don't ever get in an intellectual disagreement with him, he will chew ya up with a smile on his face....

I blame the parents.
Dope smoking is like reading dirty magazines (we have the internet for that now). Half the fun is keeping it out of the kiddies reach.
I'm a dope smoking (not so much anymore) individual and I go to extreme lengths to keep it away from the kiddies.
Although one of my daughters saw me smoking a J on the balcony once, we were staying at a hotel and the little shit was spying on me by looking through the curtains.
The kids still go on about that one. Little shits.
