Was trolling through some statistics, and noticed that quite a number of forum posts are hotlinking to images hosted on High Street. (Head Gardener seems to account for a significant percentage of these just on his own.)
This is not inherently a bad thing, as we can spare the bandwidth that's being consumed at this point. However, when attempting to check out some of these forums, a number of them can only be viewed by registered users.
Since that doesn't seem very neighborly, requests for images coming via the following sites are now redirected to this image*:

*I considered returning something more disturbing. However, given the nature of sites where people want to link to our images, it might be a challenge to come up with something disturbing enough.

I think that's appropriate.
In Crueller days, any image that I linked to from my domain that wasn't a request from the posted board got a picture of tubgirl. Xenu bless .htaccess.

I would put the domain name in the image, just for completeness.
A better challenge would be to have it randomly link to one of the banners. They are bigger and more "inviting".

Goober gotta good idear, up there. Even though "A Place For Assholes" is one of my favorite H-S items, I think having the banners show up would be even cooler.

Hmm. If the redirect was to cutsey pics from kitteh thread, the op would lose cred on that particular forum, perhaps. But that won't bring in any fresh chicken.

I remember the redirect to the "rules" on Cruel that sent the unfortunate to the most festering, swollen, nap-stank vag pic that burns the eyes still to this day...On second thought, a link to the Banners would proll'y be best.

Yeah, I basically just took an image already at hand. Using a different image that gives the full domain name is a better idea.
The problem with a bigger image is that it can end up using more bandwidth than the original hotlinked image, which defeats part of the purpose. Randomly selecting an image is possible, but requires adding some extra moving parts, introducing more complexity.

Yeah, in terms of traffic Google and company are still well on top, but there seem to be an infinite variety of forums out there (half of them about cars). Later on I'll try coming up with a list of the other places that don't block anonymous viewing. After visiting these sites, I am so glad that smilies have been disabled here.
