It's a good thing I love hot sauce.
Still, better that whooping the shit out of him like many parents would. And much better than just ignoring bad behavior and letting him turn into another annoying little barely civilized shit.

Anyone who endorses to any degree this woman's behavior deserves a punch in the mouth.
Goob, it is now my mission in life to fully fund a Cruel Reunion/High-Street meet-up just to punch you in the mouth.
An ass whupping happens way before hot sauce and cold fucking showers....

This must be a timeworn punishment because my alcoholic cousin was pouring hot sauce into her unruly sprogs more than 30 years ago. I thought it was barbaric even back when you could still beat your child half to death for any offence. I think a swat on the butt is the best medicine.

As much as I dislike Dr. Phil, I went to his web site to see what more there was on this. He - and the audience - take the bit- er, mother - to task but you can't help but wonder why neither he nor his staff contacted CPS. Well, I do know, of course: ratings.
Poor kid and poor anyone else who has to deal with him unless he gets help soon.

I thought you got soap in the mouth for lying?
Hot Sauce and a cold shower? That's just nasty.

No soap in the mouth is for bad words. What kind of parent are you anyway?

Punishing your child for bad behavior is like democracy: The worst thing in the world, except for the alternative.
Scotty, how many kids do you have?

Goob, I'm not opposed to correcting a child for lying and engaging in anti-social behavior. However, this bitch's disciplinary methods have a good chance of producing a sociopath who kills women, dices and slices the bodies, and then jerks off over the remains.

Unlike you Facebook pansies I don't go around showing pictures that are in my wallet. You're lucky I let you know I was divorced.

I believe I recognize that as Franks's Hot Sauce (or some other comparable thick pourable "hot sauce"). That may be considered hot sauce in Vermont, but not in any respectable Louisiana parish. Spicy ketchup maybe, certainly not hot sauce. Hardly child abuse by any means. Melinda's XXX habanero sauce was always applied to my mom's nippies before we suckled and we never complained.
Now, THIS is hot sauce!

What is considered mild by Cajun or Mexican standards is perceived as hotter than the fires of Hell by children from many other backgrounds.

Shrug. It's creative. I either got a stern lecture, soap mouth for cursing and a belt on bare ass for defiance. Believe it or not, even at a young age the stern lectures were more to be feared.
I believe that as a last resort, corporal punishment that does no physical damage can be a positive tool. I'm unsure what you people have against operant conditioning, but I weep to see your tykes face the real world. Society may not sanction corporal punishment, but if you piss it off it will happily incarcerate you in an shank and rape environment. As an adult it's important to realize that we are still primates and that the threat of force still rules the world.
It's important that the punishment be associated with the crime, as immediate as possible, and completely ignored when it's done. Also, never make actual contact... always use an extension of your body. Rolled up newspaper, a belt, a switch, cattle prod... whatever the situation calls for. OK, that's all from a dog training book, but I assume it applies to children.

You may not believe it at this point, but this video DID disturb me and I actually disagreed with the Moms actions. Not the hot sauce for sure. Perhaps not even the cold shower. What really rubbed my fur backwards was how she just keeps on carping on the poor kid, never letting up with the yelling, belittling and recriminations. The big problem with mental abuse is that it never really heals.
Discipline should involve four steps:
1) Understanding what you are being punished for. Having the kid repeat it to you once is fine.
2) A punishment that fits the crime.
3) Acceptance of the punishment by the punished. If you have to chase them down and hold them while administering it, the child isn't learning and you are probably doing it wrong.
4) Putting the bad behavior behind them and not being brought up again.
opsec, while I agree with most of your whispering, I think that with children, you should only ever use your own body. It's too easy to apply excessive pain with a switch, hairbrush, belt, etc. Bare open palms are more than sufficient.
With all that said, I don't think I have actually smacked my daughter more than 3 times in her 7 years. But every time I felt it was fully justified.

If done appropriately (and the child has a mild personality) your experience is the norm. But the bottom line punishment for a child should not be painful, unpleasant yes, stinging is a good description; if it gets to the point of pain or humiliation you have crossed the line.

She was on camera. Watch any court trial broadcast and you'll witness the same effect.
