Seriously, George, where are you?
I am back and expect my happy cat photo greeting.

George apparently feels that earning money and having a roof over her head is more important than spending all her time with us. She's here but doesn't get to check in nearly as often as I'd like, either.

First of all, high Woggah, and thanks for the shout-out.
Taint is correct. I got this awse job back in May; the pay's not as good as my old gig, but I really love the place. The only drawback is I can't websurf or otherwise screw around during working hours the way I used to.
This previous week, however, I was in Vegas, swilling booze and flinging chips and eating like a barbarian queen. It was our first real vacation in more than three years, and we went hogwild and had a fantastic time, and now I'm exhausted and sore and unpacking very, very slowly.
[edit] Oh, and as far as cookies: I have never made a decent cookie in my life, but somewhere on one of these threads Taint posted a recipe for brownies, using orange zest and Mexican chocolate, which produces the best brownies I have ever tasted. Taint, perhaps you could share it again...?

That would be the recipe, yes. Here it is again, just so you don't have to scroll down another thread for it:
2 sticks unsalted butter
6 oz bittersweet chocolate
2 oz Mexican chocolate (such as Ibarra or Abuelita brands)
1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp cayenne
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
Zest of one medium orange
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Butter a 9-inch square baking pan.
-Melt butter and chocolate in a double boiler or in a medium heat-safe bowl over a pan of simmering water.
-Stir mixture occasionally until completely melted and blended. You'll know the chocolate is ready when it's smooth and has a bright sheen.
-Sift flour, baking powder, cayenne, and salt together into a small bowl.
-In a large mixing bowl, using an electric beater or whisk, blend sugar, eggs, orange zest, and vanilla together until thoroughly combined. Add chocolate mixture, blending thoroughly, and then stir in flour mixture. Pour batter into baking pan.
-Place pan on the middle rack of the oven and bake until the top forms a shiny crust and the sides have begun to pull away from the edges of the pan. If you like your brownies fudgy and goopy, bake for about 40 minutes. For a more cake-like texture, bake for about an hour, or until a knife or toothpick comes out clean.

Square, I was exposed to this abomination last week and thought you might also really not appreciate it. Note that I'm kind enough not to embed it.

That will go down in history as the WORST Brit->US attempt at translation for any TV show, ever.

Hmm, may check it out when I get to a faster connection out of morbid curiosity. Didn't even bother with the Prisoner remake at all, based on comments here.

You win... that's incredibly bad. I loved Coupling.
A UK vs US comparison. Its almost 10 minutes long, but its a prime example of the difference between British and American delivery. Forgive the embedded herring eater subtitles.

Yeah, Christ, they even fucked up the theme song.
BTW, here's Mari Wilson's original "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps", for those who enjoy it.

I stand by my assertation. The US version is nothing but jokes that are either only funny to Brits or they get walked all over by the laugh track. I am sure that at least 60% of the total time in the US version of Red Dwarf is laugh track. A sure sign that even the producers didn't think that it was funny.
Now for a GOOD Brit show, try Skins. Like The Coupling, but for high school / college kids and not trying as hard to be funny.
