Well maybe not the gerbil.
Ok I need a little help here. Seems my main squeeze wants to just stay in the cottage and get baked, uh I mean bake all weekend.
Anyone have a good link to recipes for some cinnamon rolls, citrus scones, and frittatas?
And what was the thread where all the finger licking good recipes were listed?

Cottage? As in Newport cottage? Try these "Calling Taint!", spiced with a little rohypnol, and you're there.

I don't have the time to type out the best cinnamon roll recipe I know (it's long) but it's from one of my favorite Southern cook books: "A Gracious Plenty". Seriously great recipe, wonderful cookbook. I'd advise ordering it and shipping overnight for the cinnamon roll recipe alone.

Using That Ganja again in the baked goods Johnny? I warned you about that. You know what will happen!

Thanks for all the links. I would love to come up with some sort of savory egg thing like a frittata or something.
Choad , no little Newprt cottage get away yet. We will be over in Stinson baking on the side of Mt Tam. And yes dusty I have an inkling of what will happen. My friend has located some interesting ingredients. Some of bear's perfectly preserved orange barrels. Should be an interesting day in the kitchen.

Here you go, Johnny. These are a couple of recipes I developed for one of the sites I write for:
Dandelion Greens Frittata
• 5 eggs
• 1 bunch dandelion greens
• 2 strips pancetta
• ¼ cup white or yellow onion, minced
• 2 tablespoons Pecorino Romano or Parmigiano cheese, grated
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• Salt and pepper to taste
•
Special equipment you'll need: a 9-inch, or thereabouts, heavy-weight skillet with an oven-proof handle. Iron skillets are great for this.
Slice the pancetta across into thin strips and then begin frying them over low heat in half the olive oil. After about 2 minutes, add the minced onion and continue frying until the bacon is just crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels. Wipe the grease from the pan; you'll be using it for the next step.
Strip the leafy parts from the dandelion greens and discard the stems. Rinse the greens, squeeze off the excess water and then wilt them in a hot skillet over medium heat. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two at most for the dandelion leaves to wilt down. Remove the wilted green to a cutting board.
Chop the greens, and then spread out over the cutting board to cool for a few minutes. While they're doing that...
Turn on your broiler.
In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the eggs and then add the pancetta and onion mix, the cheese, and salt and pepper. When the chopped greens are cool enough to handle, toss those in, too, and give the whole mixture a few more good stirs.
Heat the remaining olive oil in the 9-inch skillet over medium heat. Tilt the skillet from side to side so that the oil covers as much of the bottom and sides as possible. Pour in the egg mixture.
Turn down the heat a bit so that it's just below medium. Let the egg mixture cook until it's just set and pulling away from the sides of the pan. The top of the frittata should still be a little runny.
Now, take the skillet by its handle and slide it into the broiler long enough for the surface of the frittata to set and just begin to brown. This will take a minute, maybe two at most.
Serve hot or at room temperature, sliced into wedges.
Serves 4.
Orange Salad with Olives
• 4 oranges such as blood, Cara Cara, or navel, peeled, and cut into rounds or segments
• ½ red onion, sliced into thin rounds
• 1 cup black oil-cured olives, or Kalamata, rinsed
• 1 teaspoon ground cumin
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon honey or sugar
• ¼ teaspoon cayenne (or less, to taste)
• ½ teaspoon crushed black pepper
• 10-12 mint leaves, sliced into threads
• 1 bunch coriander (cilantro), leaves picked and stemmed
• ¼ cup olive oil
• Juice and zest of 1 lemon
•
Special equipment you'll need: A lemon zester or microplane, and a wire whisk.
Place the orange slices in a large mixing bowl along with the onion slices and olives.
In a separate bowl, combine the lemon juice, spices, honey, and lemon zest, stir together, and then whisk in the olive oil, emulsifying the juice and the oil together.
Pour the dressing over the orange and olive mixture, toss, and then add the cilantro and mint, tossing again.
Let the salad rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend together. Give it another quick toss before you place it on the table.
Serves 4.

That is splendid Taint. I plan to be up all night and that will be a bright spot come the dawn for everybody. After which the thoroughly baked will bake cinnamon rolls and then go climb halfway up the side of Mt Tam to lie in the sun blowing smoke rings and lazily watch the hawks circle overhead.

Johnny, please be careful. Taint has just tricked you into ingesting one of the seven ingredients that cause spontaneous homosexuality. 1 bunch dandelion greens. I feel that it has already taken hold of you because you said "to die for." Try any more of his recipes and kiss your anal sphincter goodbye. For the next 24 hours, I suggest eating a fair amount of buffalo wings to ward off the effects of the dandelions.

Maybe it is too late. It must be a short slippery slope. Tonight we are going to try to make a thing with stinging nettles.

If it makes you feel any better, at least your rain is hitting us down in here in San Francisco - on the other hand, we've had more than two weeks of sunny, motorcycle weather.

I saw those pics. Yeah, there might be snow on Mt. Tamalpais by Friday as well. This has been a long winter up here in Paradise.

It's been unusually cold and wet here this winter, but who cares! How were the cinnamon rolls?

The cinnamon rolls were all warm and goey the way she likes them. We went for more of a bun rather then flakey pastery. Using yogurt in the dough.
I would not stroke anyone's envy, but it was one of those very rare getaways a few of you who have lived the history would appreciate.
We all need more of these weekends. Reminds one not to get too caught up in the rat maze of our own construction. Rain now washing down the cherry tree blossoms which had been so gentlly sifting down on us in the warm sunshine up on the side of Mt Tam.

I also had a getaway a few weeks ago. Visited a tropical paradise, rented a house, cooked up some fresh lobster I caught myself, drank way too much, enjoyed someone's company more than normal. First time in 20 years. It was perfect.

Can't say I had a gateway moment tonight, but I did just see off the last guests for dinner here at my apartment. An old boyfriend, his new partner, and one of my current partners. Dinner was good, dessert - rosemary shortbread with lemon curd and vanilla whipped cream - was great. Conversation, only slightly stoned, veered from past sexual adventures to a fairly lengthy and illuminating discussion on directional precision in Aboriginal languages. Outside it was raining and inside it was warm and amusing and comfortable.

Taint,
Of all the interesting flavors the most surprising was the blood orange salad with all that cilantro. It was much heartier and earthy than citrus. An interesting effect of the ingredients.

Isn't that a great combination? It's fairly typical of North African cuisines from which I borrowed extensively when I was cooking full time. They're flavors that adapt well to California because so many of those ingredients are readily available here and fresh.

Yep let the panic begin amongst the hip cat portvangelists. Oh how will they ever get from Nature's Fresh down the Alberta to the tea shop and the Branch whiskey bar Maybe that dirty little river town will get the ice treatment again like in 2003.
Keep me posted when the river rises.

The snow you left on the Cape and Islands hasn't melted. We got more last night. Rhode Island, as always, is covered in grit, grime and gloom.

Isn't the danger time when it freezes hard in Portland clogging the river with ice under the bridge abutments. Then all the water still draining out of the valley can not reach the Columbia. What is flood stage, 23 feet?
