Sure, he can parse a question, but how is he at throwing a thirty yard spiral while sprinting to his weak side?

Show me that and his blowjob skill and I might start comparing him to that chump Kordell Stewart.

Jeopardy relies on buzzing in at the right time.  Seems like a machine would have the advantage.

Proper Usage for $200 Alex?

If Bigcat hadn't noted it, I would have.

I would have but I was incapacitated due to twitching uncontrollably.

You notice they took a moment to explain Watson wasn't connected to the internet.  Ha!  At least the scientists have a sense of humor.

Watson actually cheated.

I need help getting in touch with Jennings or Rutter to pose a question to them that needs to be addressed to ferret out the monstrous advantage the computer had over its human counterparts.

My only question is, when did the computer get the question?  If it got the question as soon as the screen changed it had a massively unfair advantage.

Bingo.

It received a text file the moment the dollar signs changed to the clue on the screen.  That would give a minimum 3-5 second advantage over the human players in finding an answer while they were still processing information.

IBM has to step up and admit they cheated.  And they have two options in the rematch:

Simple:  Code a time delay "karaoke" type illumination of the words in the clues to match Trebek's cadence in delivering the question to the human players.

Advanced:  Implement speech recognition software that allows Watson to hear the clues as Trebek speaks them.

The humans get to see the answer the same time it's sent to Watson.  If it takes you 3-5 seconds to read seven words, then you're not going to be a Jeopardy! champion.

Why?  During the introduction, Trebek clearly stated when the answers are sent to Watson.  The timing was not a secret to anyone except unobservant viewers.

Simply put, because they advertised it as a fair competition.

Being realistic, these players processed the question without verbal input - that is why they are winners.  Regardless of that, the time to process an xml file as opposed to optical comprension must be addressed.

Watson has to read the answer from the screen.

Of course there really isn't much money in that...
