I just had to fly to Toronto for the day, so I was exposed to Canadian airport security for the first time in over a year. We've gone similar to the USA. I work in the security field - I know these drills, and I know what I'm looking for.
So here's what I noticed on this trip... Every passably cute woman in front of me in the security line got sent for body scan / pat down, including my boss.
But, me, a mid-40's somewhat overweight guy... "Have a nice day sir, you can go."
This happened at both ends, so it wasn't something constrained to just Ottawa, or just Toronto.
I can't believe it's much different in the USA, so I have to assume that your TSA and our CATSA are clearing houses for losers who just want to feel up women's tits without the hassle of being arrested or actually getting a girlfriend of their own.

It's all a matter of supervision, or lack thereof. We have a military base here. When all the nonsense started they stopped everyone going in rather than just waving most of them through. Every time I went by one of the gates I noticed all of the cars pulled out of the line for inspection had cute women driving them. At the Mexican border headed south there's a random system. If the light comes on when you drive up you pull over and they search.

It's better than the system we had in place just after 9/11, where an armed cop would stand in front of the security checkpoint and scream "NO, YOU GET IN THAT GODDAMN LINE OVER THERE AND TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES! NOW! I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW GODDAMN STUPID YOU PEOPLE ARE!"
