For some reason the fact that it's in Mississippi makes me even happier.
The lawsuit(s) brought by the Phelpses are inevitable, and will be interesting.

They should have known better than to fuck with the rednecks of Mississippi, now the way has been shown - it's (thankfully) over for them and their mischief.

That is very narrow reactionary thinking Em and will not result in the result you want. Phelps and his progeny live for the chance to sue small town governments. It is the family business and as the documentary showed all members are brought up to go to school in law or some other capacity to support it.
The more he can make the claim that there is organized obstruction, the more it meets his goals. Rather then marginalize him this action generates publicity, a spotlight that allows him to demonstrate discrimination the next time it happens, resulting in forcing the government to protect his rights and pay him off to avoid the potential of losing a lawsuit.
I saw a neighbor use the same strategy when he wanted to build where he did not have permits. He sued everyone who questioned him and won only one suit. When an official commented in a way that could be taken as bias. He filed defamation and bias by a government official in a position rule on a procedural matter. Subsequently in every pending lawsuit he got each judge to issue temporary stays on any action against him by showing past bias by official. He gained a special protected status.
This went on for 15 years. He was able to build his estate without any building or zoning permits at all, all lawsuits remaining pending. The 15 years was the length of time he wished to use the property. It was a clever if antisocial strategy.

I understand your point; our system allows such abuses only because it must if we are to retain our freedoms.
Back on topic; this appears to be an urban myth

That's a good way to short circuit any future law suits over this incident. "It never happened", "they were never in our town", "that's an urban legend", "these aren't the driods you're looking for".

Be careful what you wish for. If the alleged story is true, then I am allegedly overjoyed, but I would hate to hear about any Westboro boys stealing more chains than they could carry.
