She's certainly ripe for the privilege, what with those hardball questions she's had lately about jewelry and eyeshadow, but there's no other cereal in that General Foods subgenre. I barely remembered the BooBerry (and you just know Fnord would have me give that one to Obama). We might have to move to "Clint'n Crunch."

I used the image for a banner (Which has yet to come up for me); But, it's not really political in nature.

One vision for Lynndie was her pointing at cannabis, in keeping with the overall site theme. I'm too lazy busy to learn Paint, let alone PS.

"Kokain Macht Freud" would probably be more accurate, but as I've done a few so far, I'm trying to keep away from the [more] overt drug/sex refs. I don't see sandbagging us with literalism we don't really stand for. It'd still be nice to come up with a slogan or set of tag lines we can stick with. The banners may be coming up randomly, but there should be a more coherent theme to them (other than "shock and awful," perhaps).

Oh, and one other thing... I think I'll be altering the filenames from now on to reflect their content. Not that it matters to visitors, but it may help mods/admins prune out the older or unused ones.

Okay, I had what I think is a good idea.  However, I often tend to be somewhat inebriated when posting here, so feel free to point out any real or perceived flaws...

You know how sometimes you see a banner that's cool, but it's all distorted or something is just not as cool as it could be?  I know alot of our loyal banner posters, who come up with the actual fucked-up ideas, have confessed to not being whizzes with the photoslop or whatever.  What if we could tag our banners as "feel free to steal" or something like that?

On a somewhat related note, I know I rankled pALEPHx when I played off his Full Frontal Cruelty riff, but he was relatively gracious about it.  Just imagine if the banner thread was one giant jam session.  Since you can't find out who did what banner unless you go to the banner page and futilely try to find a file name that somewhat resembles the banner itself, who really cares who ultimately uploads the thing?  To stretch the jazz metaphor just a little too far, the real aficianados will be searching this thread like obscure liner notes to find out the source materials anyway.

My metaphor has become a simile, and I leave it to the rest of you to figure out what the fuck I am saying.

Thank you and good night.

Orangeplus has suggested individual threads for each banner in a banner message area all its own. My only personal qualm, restating something I said elsewhere earlier this evening, is fragmented focus. You'd likely loose the attention of folks who might not ordinarily participate in image creation. Both you and orangeplus have definately pinpointed a problem in search of a solution, though.

Anyone else?

Put simply: No, and no.

For one, it is arguable that all of the banners displayed are already "derivative" to some degree. Whether we riff on each other's, or swipe linked-in materials from other HS pic threads, doesn't matter quite as much as whether the final graphics serve their purpose. Which is--depending on who we ask--to amuse ourselves as an ongoing collection of inside jokes, or to entertain and intrigue others, for the purpose of getting them to investigate the site. Possibly both, at once.

As to creating a separate topic for each banner, that would cause threads to proliferate unnecessarily; also to suggest a democratic process that doesn't really exist. It's why I don't bother reposting the graphics. It's not that I think they're all gems, or mind having feedback, but if we waited for everyone to approve/disapprove them, they'd never be displayed. The ones that aren't selected, however (including my own) should probably be deleted from the 'headermant' page, unless there's some value in renaming the navbar link to something like "Banner Gallery" or "Graphic Graveyard" and reset the display to paginate after every 20-30 images, making it a browse-able 'feature' for HS members and guests.

Well, I'm sure you're as welcome to make one as anyone else, but I'd need some kind of image (turbanned teddy being a tad obvious), and I'm still hoping for something to match with the tag line "No child can be left behind if THEY'RE ALL BEHIND."

I wonder why none of the banners have been approved/displayed in nearly a week. Is there something wrong with them (or just the headermant.php)?

All valid points.  It would be cool though, if those who were willing to have their shit swiped could post source material, if it was not already on the picture thread.  I guess the logos thread is as good as anything else.

Okay then, here's an idea.  How about if you just want to post your banner and fuck everybody else's fucking Monday morning quarterbacking, just post it on the banner utility, but if you are willing to open source it, post it here on the banners thread.  If somebody wants a source image, they can just ask for it.

So anyway, it's the happy hippie in me.  I'm sure we can all just get along, man.

I dunno. One can alter the physical name of the link in the navigation bar below the header easily enough, but whether it's capable of displaying in rows or paginating is up to whoever coded the upload/rotator utility, itself. I'm not as familiar with this forum software as others, but it seems like a plausible thing. Leaving it as "Banners" suggests a Links page, which it isn't (I'm sure SOME of you have seen porn sites that offer a similarly titled section).

The recent uploads seem to be languishing. Maybe someone already has plans for the feature. I'm not going to continue creating new ones with such a backlog. Also, it shouldn't matter if the the graphic is approved/displaying. Everyone should be able to click on the others to display them, and if they want to download, reuse, or mock mine from there--for use on HS (as averse to "elsewhere")--then I'm fine with that.
