Sad to say but it's over; only Fnord posts any longer and all of the picts are lifted from Space Ghetto.

Facebook killed this community, now our only satisfaction will be to watch that monstrosity die it's ugly (and rapid) death.

There'll be many a dry eye here, when you leave.

Seasonal affect disorder is consistent across the net years. People post less when the weather improves. Site traffic here is relatively healthy.

The available news sources feeding this site - Drudge, Reddit, Fark, Gawker, any other aggregator you care to name - are all retailing the same shrinking news hole, and more and more of it is market driven crap. The suck off the fire hydrant days are done, almost. Content that hasn't migrated behind paywalls has disappeared. Hell, that trend was obvious when high street launched 4 years ago. Doesn't seem like 4 years, does it?

Before any more of you wander away, I've enjoyed this association more than any I've known. I want to keep it alive, whatever the venue, unless it's a doomed venture like FB.

Well Em, if you posted once in awhile maybe you'd complain less.  Yes, Fnord post quite a bit, good on him.  When I am in the mood I post a couple of times a day. Several people do the same, how about it sport?

I come here several times a day.  I loves the HS.

High Street doesn't stand or fall on whether or not I post.  If I disappeared tomorrow, High Street would continue.  Those of us who have Facebook pages know we have to maintain our masks there for the sake of family, friends, and even worse in some cases, employers.  Since anything a person says or does on the Internet under their real name can and will be used against them, there will always be a need for places like High Street.

Regarding FB, I have to credit CSOTD and High-Street with teaching me the dangers of not hiding one's identity on the web. I watched as several trolls and assholes had their lives posted for all the world to see. My kids think I'm paranoid for not having a FB account, but I'm careful that way. Thanks.

I still browse here daily.  I don't always have much to contribute as far as links, but I enjoy the topics except for politics.  POLITICS SUCKS!

I have to agree with Em regarding Facebook.  I have little use for it myself.  Too much drivel.  I enjoy posting and reading those of others on this site.  Surely there is a world full of unusual, gross, funny, pornographic, hypocritical, bash-worthy sites out there we can share.

I don't hide my identity on the internet, but I don't go out of my way to flaunt it either.

I don't care for Twitter or Facebook; I despise the attention-whore aspect.  Also, I read on one of the Gawker media sites a few days ago that anything you post on one of those sites can come back to bite you when applying for a job.  (Asshole HR people can have outside search firms check your social media history much like your work and credit history.)

I do not have facebook or twitter accounts for this reason. Soon unfortunately, the lack of a searchable "real" presence on popular sites may prove to be as much of a credibility problem.

I'd like to note that I've just registered Asshole HR people as a .com minus the whitespace.  Suggestions welcomed.

I was so inspired I also picked up Asshole PR people.

I research every hire on the internet before making an offer, resume's are just advertisements - so like anyone I prefer to do independent research before I commit to a long term spend.

I come here every damn day.  The main page is my homepage.  I don't post stuff every day because I won't post anything I don't consider quality, or post a comment unless I have something to say.

The only thing I do on FB any more is play those damn games.  I look forward to its going the way of MySpace.

The internet has had that property for 20+ years.  anything you post can and will be used against you.

Time sharing moved to store and forward, when? I'm not looking it up but it was a long time ago. No one, it often seems, ever after deleted anything.

I stop by in the summer as much as possible. Work is nuts in the warm months. I spend a goodly portion of the winter months here though. It's a great place to wake and bake.
