Phreddy phesses up. OK, the guy is not an Islamist Muslim. However, he isn't a exactly your cookie cutter right wing nutjob either. He's a psycho sociopath. The thought of walking around casually killing children for an hour and a half is beyond comprehension.
But, if you're going to commit a heinous crime, I suppose Norway is the place. The police are incompetent, gun laws require all weapons to be locked in safes, and the maximum sentence for anything is 21 years. Even the peaceful Norwegions are pissed off about the latter.

If he is deemed dangerous at the end of 21 years, he won't get out. There is that safety valve on sentencing in Norway. The fact that the Police didn't get to that Island pronto is the mind boggling element in all of this.

I knew this was way too random an attack to be the Hajii's.

Kudos to Phreddy for phessing up. After the media tornado of Muslim-baiting that went on before any facts came out it's hard to put all the blame onto him, for that. His knee-jerk call for arming all adults is still fair game though.
Which brings me to the observation that Charlie not only hits the nail dead square on the head every time but also has a much higher class of commenter than most:
"You can tell it's serious when Charlie Brooker doesn't need to embellish a single detail to make something utterly farcical. A sad, sad incident that seemed impossible to make worse, but trust the media - they'll lower the tone any way they can."
"Its also been interesting that 'terror' 'terrorism' and terrorist' have been replaced by 'attrocity' 'murder' 'attack' 'shooting' and 'bombing,' because it can only be terrorism when theres a muslim doing it."
"Then the truth came out - and the scramble was to quickly paint the perpetrator as "right wing," even before we actually know much about his politics other than that he has some crazed view that killing teenagers is "necessary.""

Number #1 - this forum is decidely slanted to the left.
Number #2 - liberals don't have much of a history when it comes to political massacres.

(yes, obviously)

(that tends to be a right wing/fundamentalist type of activity.

I think the reason people jumped on the right wing aspect is because the right wing tends to take so much glee in jumping on the Muslims are evil terrorists because terrorist Muslims attacked us rhetoric. Then when it turns out to be a right-wing extremist suddenly it's just an isolated incident carried out by some extreme crazy whackjob.
It's no big surprise that they would get some ribbing over that.

Notwithstanding the fact that this guy is a total whack job who thinks he's a Nazi, the vast majority of political bombings throughout the world are executed by radical Muslims. You can't blame anyone for looking to that possibility first.

Based on what? That's not true in the US, and it certainly isn't true in Norway.

Sorry Phred, too many right-wing supporters go whack-job - the evidence is undeniable. But keep the faith - the left-wing pundits are now employing the extreme right-wing pundit tactics; I'm sure the tables will soon be balanced.
Naturally this explains why my wholesome-conservative ass is now staunchly Independent; neither wing even pretends to support my views any longer.

If your first assumption was that this was Islamic terrorism, you have a real problem. That problem is that you take evidence based on lived experience, and use that to find patterns. You really ought to approach each experience as a completely unique occurrence--like a babe, fresh to the world.
