I disagree. We should give them just what they want: independence. No more welfare, no more direct tribal payments, no more special tax status. Let them set up casinos and tobacco operations to pay for their own social programs. After all, why does a tribe that gets hundreds of millions of dollars in casino profits every year also get hundreds of millions of dollars in welfare, yet all income on the reservation is exempt from federal and state taxes?

No more representation without taxation!

Yeah, that's what I mean.  If they want to be independent, then so be it.  No special status.  Give them title and deed to their reserves, settle all the land claims by binding arbitration and cut them loose.
