OK, Mr. Paul. Now that your crown and sceptre have been issued, here are your duties as czar.

1. Activate new banners as they are uploaded. This is a matter of going to the Banners link at the top of the page, selecting the "Both users and guests" status for any new banners, then clicking the "Submit status changes" button. You will get a page asking you to confirm your changes; "Submit changes" puts them into effect.

Note that images uploaded by moderators and administrators will have been initially set to "Registered users only" status. Those uploaded by others start out as "Not shown."

By convention, there are certain banners that are not set to be viewed by "Both users and guests." Instead, they are set to be seen by "Registered users only." These include banners featuring nudity, gore, generally anything explicit, even if it's not "hardcore." As I understand it, the idea is to not throw offensive images in the face of random visitors to the site (if they choose to click through to the picture thread, well, they deserve what they get). You can ask choad for a ruling on this, as my memory of the guidelines is hazy and may not match his interpretation.

2. Eliminate unworthy banners. Visit the Voting statistics page and look at the table of lowest-rated banners. The original decision method used was to remove banners which had a negative score and that had been active for at least 30 days. Taint followed a different protocol, which was simply to remove any banner with a -9 or lower score.

You terminate banners by again going to the Banners link, then selecting "Delete" status for them. Submit and confirm the changes as before. Note that the banners are not actually deleted; they are just marked in the database to be ignored. If you delete something in error, let me know and I can manually restore it.

Once you've deleted a banner, post a message in this thread letting everyone know what you've done. You can generate a list using the banner log page - select the dates in question and check "Generate BBCode" and you'll get a list in BBCode format you can copy and paste.
