(Link isn't working for me, but what the hell, I'll weigh in like a social Conservative - knowing nothing but certain I'm right.) Knowing that I was destined to lose most of my motor function and ultimately drown in my own saliva might make me a bit sensitive too. It wasn't that long ago that my least-favourite elementary-school teacher died of ALS. As his old students sent heart-warming letters of support and sympathy I made the decision to continue to dislike him even as he died. I have enough measures of my own hypocrisy - why add another one to the balance? Still, even he probably didn't deserve such a helpless, gurgling end.
